BlackBookMag: His-royal-purpleness-prince-sly-stone-and-submerce

Great read here!.....

Some quotes;

a record industry exec, who will remain nameless in case he shows up late for work today, told me that over at BB King’s, Prince popped up on stage and covered Sly & The Family Stone’s “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin).” My friend’s memory was rather weak because his drinks were rather strong, but he said industry folks knew about the star’s impending appearance with Ex-Sly and the Family Stone bassist Larry Graham

cool

I first ran into him while running the Palladium. He came dressed in head to toe yellow, with a large entourage in tow, and then promptly scurried out. It was a flamboyant gay party, and whether it was that, or he didn’t want to be showed up by the drag queens, I don’t know. I told the story when I was a guest on the Joan Rivers Show and got a call the next day. I deserved to be “corrected.”

lol

Over my club years I have run into his royal purpleness a lot. On every occasion I have found him to be a class act who surrounds himself with classy, honest and uber cool people. I’ll agree that some of those Sheila E outfits were questionable. Bryan Ferry from Roxy Music once offered the lyrics “with every idol a let down it brings you down.” Prince never lets you down, brings you down, or rests on any of his countless laurels. Prince is the realio dealio.
