no sarcasm here, but a friend once suggested that the beret itself is a metaphor for vagina...and if it was warm, she would not mind to be naked.

Does he mean the girl is wearing a red beret or she's wearing what the Urban dictionary's talking about, or...she gave him one.

I was reading about cross cultural stories that feature red caps, little red ridinghood is ours but the story is universal and signifies virginity. A 26 year old pop musician unconciously revising the archetype is fascinating, that's my take anyway. | |

this song is clearly a testament to the plight of a young man with limited financial means and no path to uplifting his battered psyche and then he meet a young bohemian girl with the aforementioned beret. She reminds him of a time of innocence in his life and they escape the mundane trivialities of the secondhand store to fuck like rabbits while a horse wathces!

Ya, I did a little reading on the Little red ridinghood thing yesterday, it seems to have something to do with either virginity or menstruation. The fascinating thing is it is a universal, Prince has surprised me many times with his allusions. What can we say, he's a genius. You don't see this kind of stuff everyday in pop music, then or now. | |

Also, Prince being Prince has an interesting twist on the tale. You know, the myth has a wolf devouring the grandmother and the girl but Prince totally rolls the feminine and the masuline into the other sex. You know, "had the nerve to ask me if I planned to do her any harm" mentioning how big she was. It's like he's the "bitch" which he did better and more gloriously than anyone else. | |
