If Prince had released "blank" as a single......

If Prince had release "blank" as a single.....it would have shot straight to #1 on the charts.
What song do you feel would have quickly went to #1 had he released it as a single? Something that would be a huge radio hit. There's quite a few for me, The ones I can name off the to of the dome are..

If I love you tonight...his version,not Mayte's

Space

Beautiful Strange

To the 9's

Elephants and Flowers

She loves me 4 me

Crap, at first I thought the OP meant track 4 on Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.

Space was released as a single..... went nowhere. It was a bad time for Prince and airplay, and no push from WB

"Space" was a single. There is a great Acoustic Mix of it, and the Universal Love Remix is awesome too.

"Beautiful Strange", while not a single, was certainly highlighted as the name of the Mel B interview, and was highlighted on the Rave In2 album.

"Elephants and Flowers" would not have been a great single at that time. Fans love it, but the radio would have hated it.

"Love 2 The 9's" had potential as a strong radio single, I agree. "She Loves Me 4 Me" was played on urban radio a tiny bit. Even my white, causal Prince fans picked up on "She Loves Me 4 Me".

Strange Relationship.

It's the backbone of Camille, Dream Factory, Crystal Ball & SOTT. A corking track that would have done incredibly well.

I would have liked The Morning Papers to have been a single. Electric Chair and Strange Relationship too.

If The Beautiful Ones were released in 1984/85, it'd still be #1 in the charts though.

Lolita woulda been a fun single, a great video with the NPG chanting in a nite club with Prince trying it with a gal on the floor.

I don't know if these songs would have went straight to Number One,but I bet they would have been extremely popular on the radio:

"Private Joy"
"Lovesexy" (the song)
"Housequake"
"The Beautiful Ones"
"Automatic"
"The Future"
"319"
"Sleep Around"
"So Far,So Pleased"
"It"

Must look out for the video amongst the dregs. I must have been so wrapped up in my GCSEs to miss The Morning Papers as a single!

Trust. I understand why partyman was a single, but I have NO idea why anyone liked Bat Dance. I guess it did go to number 1 (didn't it?) but I feel like that has more to do with the fact that it was a movie tie in than actual song quality.

Trust on the other hand is a highly listenable dance track. The only critique I would put on the song might be removing the cartoon sounds and the spoken word part lifted from batman.

I guess another reason might be that Partyman and Trust are both in a similar vein. IDK

Beautiful Ones. Honestly, WB and Prince should have released every song on Purple Rain as a single (except Darling Nikki).

Electric chair, may have broke into the top 10..maybe.

Good Man should have been on an album and released as a single. At least a #3 hit.

The Max should have been the lead single for prince. It would have gave the album more momentum. Probably not a #1 hit, but definitly a top 10.

Endorphine Machine should have been released without a doubt!

Love could have been a top 10. Had a modern trendy sound to it. Prince blended right in with todays sound, but still maintained his Prince like quality.

The 1 u wanna c..well.. maybe not a top ten but in the top 20 for sure.

Dreamer may have had a chance if not for all the racial stuff. Noone wants to hear Prince complain about racial issues. Just sounds ridiculous coming from him. Great music, great sound,...but The lyrics may have hurt it as a single.
