Parade Tour-Shows 1986

Parade [Hit&Run] Tour & Shows

"Brilliant, I've never seen anything quite like it"
-Gavin Martin. NME

* [got TOUR pics with accompanying city/dates? please share] If I post any pics that you have a correct date/city country for please share. Thanks

after Prince announces 2 the world during an interview in Paris that he wasn't going to tour (anymore) somewhere in February 1986 rehearsal for the tour begin at the Washington Avenue Warehouse in Minneapolis

Parade album drops on March 21. 1986
Under the Cherry Moon is rel July 1.1986

the tour features many songs from Parade as well as the Around the World in a Day album.
This tour was a bit more loose and the era gave us some exciting performances outside of the tour as well. the Revolution & Sheila E. & Mazarati have various combination performances.

Parade Tour Rehearsal
1.Around The World In A Day
2.Christopher Tracy's Parade
3.New Position
4.I Wonder U
5.Anotherloverholenyohead #1
6.Instructions
7.Anotherloverholenyohead #2
8.Interlude
"An Honest Man"

the Revolution: Bobby Z(drums) Dr Fink(keyboards/synth) BrownMark(bass) Lisa Coleman(piano/keyboards) Wendy Melvoin(guitar)
the extended Revolution: Eric Leeds(sax/flute) Atlanta Bliss(trumpet) Mico Weaver(guitar) Jerome Benton, Greg Brooks Wally Safford(dancers/vocals) Susannah Melvoin also gave back up vocals

the show musically was much more organic in sound, the drumming included some linn/electric effects but was mostly organic, the music was excecuted freely and really felt and sounded like the album cuts, which in my opinion was very important to capture the essence of the album.

Prince during the Purple Rain tour was Jimi Hendrix of Santana, but on the Parade tour he exuded James Brown.
Exciting extension of the Parade era

the 'Open Rehearsal' preview happened on March 3rd 1986 @ 1st Avenue in Minneapolis

Warfield Theatre, San Francisco : 8th March 1986 (w/ Sheila E)

The live concert from San Francisco showcases Sheila's skill as a performer, percussionist and singer. The show kicks into high gear showing Sheila rock the stage with "Sister Fate" and "Erotic City". Prince makes a cameo w/the Revolution at the end for a show-stopping performance with Sheila on 'A Love Bizzare). Sheila also jams to "Holly Rock" and "The Glamorous Life".

I never said that all the pics were from the individual shows, thanks for giving the info though, I'm just putting up shows and pictures, some of the shows I did put the actual pics, just because I had/new them. That one with Wendy I just went by what I was told by the person who gave it to me, so thanks I'll correct that.
So what I'll do from here out is post only the shows I have a pic or more from and then post photos from shows and maybe U and other can share the show it's from and I'll add the concert info... cool? Help me out... I'm assuming you have pics w/show dates-info 2 share with us

I know Prince (& the Revolution) did 'aftershows' during the Parade era
I think some of the live Flesh jam sessions were these aftershows?

It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night
U Gotta Shake Something

I have a song title Susannahs Blues from an aftershow

not the clearest but it gives that feel of a very intimate peak into that time

Le New Morning, Paris,France - Aug 24th 1986

This instrumental was recorded live with The Revolution at a soundcheck in Paris on August 25th 1986 but was premiered the night before at Le New Morning club and, incidentally, is not a blues number. Prince's father, John L. Nelson (RIP), who joined the band onstage for a while at Le New Morning played some piano on this version.

*blue -Prince's words

starts out with a start sound of tuning instruments
and then you hear audience people more clearly women screaming
aaaahhhhhwwwww
"Prince is cute!"
music pics up
"Mico
Mico?!!
sings Micooo
music breaks
chearing
There he is right now
ahhhh do it
(intro)Mico Weaver
chearing
I thought he was going 2 be outside trying 2 talk 2 one of these French girls
laughter
Who's that man with the dark glasses on?
U look important
U look kinda important
Can u play something
I looked on that wall and saw his face
looked over on that wall and saw his face

chearing, bluesy music
Prince starts scatting a bit
B flat right quick
let me see what u got

music picks up
bass drums piano guitar
the band gets in2 a groove
piano soloing
wooooo
That's what I get 4 calling someone up on stage
horn into/Prince vocalizing:
Da da
da da
da da dah dah dah dah da
da da
da da
da da dah dah dah dah da

on the 1 yall
bass
big band song break close out
I don't know who U was, but u was bad

Wow...U can tell Prince was enjoying his new found wealth...especially the pic above...the man was pure style during this time period...I think this must be Prince's favorite era as well, because if u look at his look and style now, it's very similar to his style then.

Loved that concert! It was the very first time I ever saw Prince perform live. And I just had to be there, especially because he had announced he was never going to tour again after that. I'm so glad he lied wink !!

These pictures bring back some great memories. Thanks !

not the clearest but it gives that feel of a very intimate peak into that time

Le New Morning, Paris,France - Aug 24th 1986

This instrumental was recorded live with The Revolution at a soundcheck in Paris on August 25th 1986 but was premiered the night before at Le New Morning club and, incidentally, is not a blues number. Prince's father, John L. Nelson (RIP), who joined the band onstage for a while at Le New Morning played some piano on this version.

starts out with a start sound of tuning instruments
and then you hear audience people more clearly women screaming

yeah but the picture quality is really very bad

review of the now defunct 'thedatabank':

This is such frustrating viewing. This concert is the final show of Prince & The Revolution, so I guess it was asking a little too much for it to be in fantastic quality. Actually, if it was in good quality I wouldn't complain. Unfortunately, it is neither - which is quite saddening. It has been filmed by an audience member from the back of the stadium, quite high up and to the right hand side of the stage. The person filming concentrates on the stage for the first 25 minutes, however it is quite difficult to make out what is happening due to a mixture of the lighting, and the poor picture quality. They then film the giant video screen for the (near) duration of the show - with much improved results. The picture quality is still below average, however there are some nice moments. There are a few drop-out in the picture also. The beginning is missing, and during the show there are a few cuts - most annoyingly 'Kiss' is gone and 'Sometimes It Snows' is audio only - boo fucking hoo. It goes without saying that the show is one of (if not the) best of the Parade shows. The performance is amazing, and the set-list features some very rarely performed tracks, most notably during the piano segment (Do U Lie? / The Ladder). Watching Prince's emotions bubble over on 'Purple Rain' and smash two guitars down onto the stage isn't an everyday occurrence and it's fascinating viewing. If this had been any other show, I would dismiss it - however as it is the final Revolution concert it deserves a special place - no matter how poor the quality.

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

17 Days blew me away - wasn't expecting that. The opening from behind the curtain with ATWIAD and then when the curtain flew back/up to reveal his nibs was out of this world exciting at the time.

I remember Do Me Baby really well, When Doves Cry, Mountains and of course Purple Rain were the other stand-out moments, but I can't really express how blown away I was by the whole experience. The only thing that ever topped it was Lovesexy two years later.

It was a whole other world from what I'd been living - It was the first time I was truly transported by an experience and became aware how much experience there was out there to have. biggrin

Wow, any standout momemts

the Parade shows were really tight

17 Days blew me away - wasn't expecting that. The opening from behind the curtain with ATWIAD and then when the curtain flew back/up to reveal his nibs was out of this world exciting at the time.

I remember Do Me Baby really well, When Doves Cry, Mountains and of course Purple Rain were the other stand-out moments, but I can't really express how blown away I was by the whole experience. The only thing that ever topped it was Lovesexy two years later.

It was a whole other world from what I'd been living - It was the first time I was truly transported by an experience and became aware how much experience there was out there to have. biggrin

Agreed Vivid, I know of the 'experience' that ur alluding 2 here. My 1st Prince show was Lovesexy at Wembley and, like Parade, all of London's musical aristocracy were out in force watching history being made. The whole show/experience was overwhelming. Incredible. He set the benchmark 4 all live performers with his 80's tours.

Yep. The Lovesexy show was my second Prince show - I was third row and when he was going around on the back of the car at the end, he and I exchanged 'cross' hand signals - and my mate got his towel. We both went home very happy that night. I've never experienced a concert like Lovesexy since.

My main memory is the constant roar of the crowd - there was never a lull. I was simultaneously drained and elated when I got home that night.
