Is Prince is homophobic?

I recently had dinner with a friend I haven't seen in a long time.

He'd worked on the last tour in London with Prince and ofcourse I had to hear everything !!

It saddens me but... Prince would not talk to him directly because he was gay.
My friend would have daily meetings with him around a table and Prince would always speak through someone else. As in say the comments to the person next to him and ask them to pass it on.

He was the only 1 in these meetings Prince would do this to.

And if you met my friend you'd know he was gay from space.

Very sad... I know he's very religious... but this is pretty outrageous !!

If he was homophobic why would he play with Wendy at a concert recently?
I honestly don't think he is, even though his religion does not accept gays. Prince always has had gay people around him.
At a concert once I saw an gay man once flash a I love you sign to Prince and he nodded in appreciation. So no I don't think he is homophobic, I think he is accepting of all his fans.

We all know he does it with Larry Graham. Just because all men aren't made equal doesn't make him homophobic.

The answer is: no, he reads The Bible with his gay friends. But the real question is: Is Prince's left ball bigger?

I once asked him if I could do him up the butt and he said 'no'.

I don't know if he's homophobic. I personally think (Emphasis on "think")he is, but the story you told could also just be Prince not wanting to talk to his, whatiamgonnacallit, underlings. That your friend happened to be gay as well, could then be a coincidence.

But who knows?

He does however seem to have a hard time dealing with the subject in a mature/convincing way ..

Really? How so? Can you give an example of Prince not dealing with homosexuality in a "mature/convincing way"?

Prince has presented an androgynous image since the early days - he's worn heels, make-up and "camp" clothing throughout his career, yet people wonder if he is homophobic? Come on!

Furthermore, I've heard plenty of homophobic lyrics in songs, particularly in rap and hip-hop - NEVER in a Prince song. And, he's had his opportunities to say as much and, yet, has been far more mature about it. 2 examples;

Controversy - "Am I Black or white, am I straight or gay?" - in his early 20's, he already had a good grasp on things and rather than lambast or go mad at those questioning his ethnicity or his sexual preference, he turns it on people's ridiculous curiosity and shows that there are bigger things in the world to worry about, rather than supposedly controversial gossip.

Life O' the Party - "....plus I thought he was gay - Well, it ain't nothing if it ain't fun" - again, Prince could have been defensive or accusatory about people labelling him as gay when he is clearly straight but, instead, brushed such rubbish aside by saying he was just having fun and, hence, not to take him or the subject too seriously.

But, please, do provide me with examples of where Prince doesn't handle the subject well so I can re-consider - as, for me, all the evidence is there that Prince is NOT homophobic.

(BTW - I do agree that it is more likely he didn't want to communicate directly with an "underling", as you put it. It is well documented about his lack of interaction with people he doesn't know - all the "don't look him in the eye" schtick (which, by the way, is not exclusive to Prince - many other artists demand similar ridiculousness!)

I'm sure he's telling me the truth. He's worked for years with alot of big American music stars and he said this was the worst.
He's also a huge Prince fan. When he said to Prince ' I've always loved your music'.Prince didn't reply .. he just turned his head away.

It has to be said Prince did interact with everyone else in these meetings.

Thanks for the link to that article - I had not read that story before.

Ok, so Prince appears to be suffering from institutionalised homophobia - a dark by-product from his relatively new-found secular belief. I think it would be safe to say that Prince didn't feel this way before his acceptance of the "JW truth". It is lamentable that someone so ostensibly open and liberal, as Prince was for a majority of his life, now appears to be ultra-conservative.

I worked with a guy who was a crew member during the filming of Graffiti Bridge, he said Prince would always speak through a 3rd party when dealing with people he didn't know - even when standing right next to them.

For what its worth. shrug

Wow. This sounds like a story that anyone could make up. There are hardly any supporting details or specifics. A "friend" you say ?
Prince talks to Wendy and Lisa. Prince recently shared the stage with Elton John in London. Seems to me like it'd be a hard go in show business to avoid talking to anyone who is gay. Not saying you are wrong, just that the example you gave is very vague.

Except for the fact that we don't know if he was ever so "open and liberal" or that he is "ultra conservative". What are we basing these opinions on? Song lyrics? Interviews? All it is (and has ever been) is speculation. Since the 80's people have claimed that Prince was/is a misogynist. How do we really know if he is or not? We don't. We are dealing with a public persona.

Seems to me, a black man wearing makeup, girl clothes, and high heels cannot ever be called "ultra conservative".
