Need some song suggestions for after the loss of a loved one

Has Prince written any songs relating to the loss of a loved one?

'Comeback' from the album 'The Truth' is about the loss of somebody and is quite beautiful.

"Another Lonely Christmas" and "With this tear (Celine Dion recorded) deal with death of a loved one. They would kinda push you over the edge though if you're already down.

My brother in law also died this year with a two month old baby. I don't
suggest any sad songs.. Too hard already.

I like Last December and Comeback.

Sorry for your loss.

Honestly, if you want to honor a loved one, I wouldn't even bother with a Prince song. The ones that address death are either too specific or don't quite hit the mark emotionally, Comeback being the only one that skirts close to being appropriate. "Lonely Christmas" is an exercise in drama and depression, "Sometimes it snows in April" is too specific, etc. etc.

If you really want to honor them play something like Andrea Boceli's Conte Partiro [ Time to Say Goodbye ]. It's a rather beautiful song.

And of course, Pachabel's Canon in D, major.

Both Bocelli's Conte Partiro and Pachabel's Canon in D major work because they evoke a vague sense of longing which can be interpreted both as sorrow and as joy depending on the person listening to it (which is why Canon in D is often played at weddings or funerals).

Again, sorry for your loss rose

Whenever I associate loss of a loved one to a Prince song, automatically "Sometimes It Snows In April" comes to mind.

... and now I have it stuck in my head. Meh.

"Others here with us" is about such matters but would clear out the funeral home, not a good choice.

"4 the Tears in Your Eyes" "Comeback" "The Cross" "She Gave Her Angels"

"Sometimes it snows in April" and "Still Could Stand All Time"

"Comeback" - is divine. The only thing I do not like about this song, is its brevity!

Everyone has pretty well covered the great Prince songs to help with loss. Here are a few suggestions by other artists.

Several tracks on R.E.M.'s album Automatic For The People deal with loss and death, including Everybody Hurts, Sweetness Follows, Nightswimming, Man On The Moon and Find The River.

Tom Waits is a master of heartbreaking lyrics. Try songs like Take It With Me, Good Old World, Time, If I Have To Go, and many others.

Leonard Cohen's song Bird On The Wire helped me when my father passed away this past August. My father wasn't a model person, but he wanted to be better than he was, and this song really spoke to that situation. Other great Leonard Cohen songs that might help with loss include, If It Be Your Will and Hallelujah.

Death Cab For Cutie have a song on their album Plans called What Sarah Said, that is a beautiful rumination on the loss of a loved one due to a prolonged illness.

If I knew more about the nature of your loss, I might suggest some other songs.

I am sorry for your loss.

You're absolutely right about the REM album (Sweetness follows and Nightswimming are really some mesterpieces).
Sorry for the loss of your father, may he rest in peace.
