Cloreen Bacon Skin

Something very strange: I heard a version of Cloreen Bacon Skin which begins differently than the official version (talk about "headphones" ). Anyone has an idea?

Ugh.....its not a "song", its a jam in the studio, not even a rehearsal.....an improvised, free-flowing exercise to keep the funk flowing. It was only included on Crystal Ball to give those that might be interested a bit of insight in to how things go down in the studio with Prince.....so, you really can't judge this as a song!

asma - how is it different? Cos, seeing as this was just an improvised jam for that moment, I'd be amazed if there is a "version" floating around!

ok..... first of all, there is only one version, and it has the 'motherfucker dont even have headphones on' bit in it... only one version

to the person who said 'you must have a rehearsal version' -- you're an idiot, this IS a rehearsal, there is only one version of it... because it's not a song

and for all the other people ignoring the topic of the thread and just stating their personal opinion of the song, also idiots

Wow - where to start with this one?

Ok - let's start with the track. You can hear it is improvised. You can hear it has not been given full production treatment (except for maybe some mastering for its release) and given the normal love and attention. If considered as a song, it is virtually pointless. When taken in the context of an impromptu jam, it makes complete sense.

Then we have the liner notes - they tell us clearly what the track is and why it was included. Why should be disbelieve that? What, within the description of this track, do you find suspicious? In fact, of any of Prince's liner notes, which do you think are misleading and why?

So - it sounds like a studio jam.....we are told it is a studio jam.....yet you want to suggest that it is something else and Prince is somehow being devious about this track?!

What do you think this track is? Or it's purpose? And why do you think Prince would misdirect with the supporting notes?

This is a bizarre statement from you that needs justifying and elaborating on - I truly await your response with interest.

Ok, an off topic question for bass players (ok, kidding, it is on topic)...how do you think Prince is playing the ghost notes? Is he muting the strings with his palm? I used to think he was thumping the bass to get that sound but now it sounds to me more like he's strumming the ghost notes with his thumb.

P.S. I love the song. Call me what you like.

If you're refering to me..Im speaking of another version of CBS aside from the released verion that I have and heard with my own ears you dumb fuck..That basically has Prince and Morris Day who plays drums on the song, jokin around, laughin while recording CBS. A rough cut/outtake, Its about only few a mintues long. I know the fuck Im talkin about dumbass

Have you watched the video of Prince playing the Cleo bass while laying down the track for Partyman? I couldn't see him mute at all. In that short clip, he combines thumb-slapping, strumming and finger picking. I'll orgnote you.

That track and Sexual Suicide were the most played tracks off that album. One friend of mine would not stop repeating it in his car (off of my cd!)

I think it was exactly what I needed to hear from Prince at the time. Genius move to put it on there, raw, funny, funky, and unexpected.

cool

Who's the character in the song (the old guy)?
And why is he calling his wife bacon skin--what's that about?
And is this some sort of parody of James Brown?
