How Has Prince's Music Caused You To Change Something In Your Life?

I was thinking back to when I first became a Prince fan and how his music influenced my life, in what ways. One big change was when I moved to another state and wanted to get fit. I started riding my ten speed bike every day, at first to the beach, and then for miles...all while playing Around The World In A Day and 1999 on my Walkman. The music made me want to go faster and further until I got into long distance cycling with other riders and lost thirty pounds. This transferred into a desire to go to clubs where they played Prince's music and dance all night long! What has Prince's music caused you to change in your life in a practical or life-altering way (i.e. career change, life outlook, etc.)? cool

I didn't masturbate TO Prince or his music (I've never found him sexy), but his music being so sexual opened up my pent up Baptist boy ways.

I was Independent Baptist, which was (and still is) so strict, they make Southern Baptists look like heathens. SRSLY.

Really! I always thought Southern Baptists were the worst! No dancing, no drinking, no sexy posters on the wall... How are Independent Baptists worse than Southern Baptists? Curious, because my Dad was a Sunday school teacher for the adults after he smacked my Mom and the kids around on Saturday! What hypocrisy was more so in Indep. Baptist than S. Baptist?!

It hasn't. I have my own mind and don't let his music (or anyone's)dictate how I live my life.

It is what the hell it is.

I'm not suggesting that Prince's music or anyone else's dictates how someone lives (or dies!). I'm asking whether it was one among other influences that caused a change in someone's behavior or thinking! Because music has that power! No one dictates his/her life (or shouldn't) merely by musical or pop influences! At least, I hope not!

Recently, since I've been listening again, he doesn't make me think more about spirituality, than I have always done, but his music underscores the thoughts and emotions that I am going through now--the new music! I don't know why people think that Prince shouldn't reach out and explore for himself! The difference is that he has to do it musically and publicly--in a way the rest of us don't! I am glad he is willing to share his music! People act like he owes it to us and he doesn't! What if he retired tomorrow from doing music! How would everyone on this forum feel! Betrayed, that's what! Prince can't please everyone, just like so many other artists... I just want to keep hearing his jazz/funk! Love the other stuff--luv jazz/funk more! You go, Prince! cool

I agree. Folks talk bad about him all day everyday, but if he was gone what would they do then? What other artist could feed them musically? No one.

Oh geez! Oops! I didn't mean a physical change, just an inner/outer spiritual change! Man, you sure have to watch the language you use nowadays! Not that there is anything wrong with a physical change! In my opinion! cool

Well a couple of things...I worked with (Midnight Star) on the road as a runner...intentionally to build experience to work 4 Prince.

I have done a few different art projects that are based on Prince's guitar playing...Prince has inspired me to write a lot of love poetry.

Last Christmas...My aunt asked me if I would ever quit smoking cigarettes 4 Prince....I said Yes...Cold Turkey...

I smoked for 25 years...I Quit October 1st. All I had to do to resist the craving is think about kissing Prince....It worx...I'll never smoke again. cool

Last Night, I spent another lonely Christmas...Darlin' Darlin' U shoulda been there.~Prince.

Music goes waaaayyy back for me and if we're talking about P's music. I did not like slow jams until I heard "Do Me Baby". Now mind you this was when I was in my 20's, I wouldn't listen to or play a slow jam to save me life. Then in 1995, I heard 1 of P's slow jams and tried it out with a x, worked well. Then low and behold, hardcore fan in 1996, but "Do Me Baby" was the "it" song. Me and wifey could "get down" with that song now. cool

How Prince’s letter, in which Prince blames himself for the beating he received, will affect the case is a matter of speculation, as is why Prince assigned blame to himself.

It made me feel accepted with my thoughts, style, music and past. From what I know about Prince, it really does have a big connection to my life and my past. With his music it's the same - it feels great knowing that there's someone out there who took the same chances, tried to combine genres and all that.
