Thoughts on "With This Tear"? (Prince's Song for Celine Dion)

Anyone have any thoughts/opinions/general impressions of this song (it's on YouTube for the curious).

I thought it was quite bland at first, but have started to like it more and more...

I'd love to learn more and whether a Prince demo exists or is purported to exist.

Good question,i wanna know if he recorded a demo too and if anyone on here has heard it. Most likely he did record a demo,he usually does for songs given to other artists.Take Dance electric,Sex of it,You,and The Voice as perfect examples.

It's not bad for a 'Celine Dion' song. She certainly puts her all into it. Compositionally though, it's little basic for my liking. I prefer his more complex stuff.

I think that it is one of the best thing that he has ever written. There is a version of it, out there somewhere.

did she perform this on Oprah once?

I love this song, Love the way Celine sings it. Would love to hear Prince sing it.

Never heard of it and checked it out just now.

I LOVE it, it's a beautiful song and her voice is amazing. It fits her and he's so talented to adapt to other people's music.

I think it's one of the best things Celine has recorded. Not because it's Prince related, but because it's pretty balanced and honest (not over-sung). The build up is right, the belting is right, the "quiet" parts are right. IMO.

I like the song lyrically (MAN HE'S A POET!) and the word play of 'tear'. Beautiful! And I love the orchestra arrangements (although that's most probably not of any Prince's influences).

Never heard this song before, therefore I have no clue about the origin or production process.

Really good tune! I love the lyrics. better than "You're My Love" for Kenny Rogers, but not as quirky as "Telepathy" for Deborah Allen.
