Princebonics are SO 10 years ago. Prince has stolen half of what he's done on guitar and with band arrangements from Sly, James, Rick, Santana and a dozen others. Nothing is that original anymore. Besides, Maxwell has long talked about being a Prince fan, even in recent months on his Twitter, and through the years. So even if Maxwell was sitting in a chair, his being a fan is kind of known. MPLSound is WORST Prince album ...ever, from so high he now stoops to so low. Perhaps you missed the fact that it's his personal Twitter page. Why would someone PAY him to make a comment about PRINCE? That's ludicrous to even consider. I have no argument about MPLSound being horrible, but Maxwell falls in line with those here who DO love that trash disk. No harm no foul. Ernest L Sewell, IV

I wasn't a Maxwell fan when he first when he released his first album but a friend of mine convinced me to go to a show with her. his stage presence back then was very reminiscent of Prince and it turned me on to him as an artist. I definitely saw the influence in his act. I've got a new thread and a dildo 4 U. If U don't like the new thread then U can go fuck yourself!

Maxwell is himself on his Twitter. He's not pushing links to buy his CDs, or even to buy tix to the show. If it were that, I'd not follow it. It is ludicrous to think "I'll pay you if you say something nice about Prince." Why would any artist who's trying to express themselves, and be honest how about their music like Maxwell, stoop to lying for the sake of a few bucks? THAT is the ludicrous part. Ernest L Sewell, IV

It's funnier that you think Maxwell would do something like that. As if it's hard to believe he's a Prince fan, or this is some big revelation to anyone? He's only talked about it for 12 years since he started. He likes MPLSound. Big whoop. You don't. Big whoop. Ernest L Sewell, IV

sade's band (sweetback) played on his 1st album... Well... actually it was Stuart Matthewman that contributed that vibe... and he was a HUGE part of Sade's sound. It was a combination of him and Wah Wah Watson (guitar), Federico Pena (a MONSTER on keys, and a good friend of mine from DC), Mike Neal (bass), and Gene Lake (drums). Also, don't forget that the GREAT Leon Ware wrote a lot of material on that album.

...and with all that being said, it should come as no surprise whatsoever that Max is a Prince fan, as Ernest points out.

Isn't Alan Leeds Maxwell's Manager? Obvious Prince connection. Also Michael B. (and I think Sonny T.) played on his "Now" album.

Also, don't forget that the GREAT Leon Ware wrote a lot of material on that album. Agreed... Matthewman is quite the musician/producer, and it was he who played on Maxwell's first three albums (not Sweetback). Matthewman is definitely a big reason why Sade's albums are so good (guitar, sax, keys and general vibe). I was disappointed when I saw that he didn't contribute to Maxwell's new one. Stuart's, as well as Paul S. Denman and Andrew Hale's contributions to Sade's albums are definitely underappreciated. One beef I have regarding their contributions is that people most often mistakenly refer to "Sade" as her/she -- when it's always been well documented that "Sade" is the band name (the lead singer is Sade Adu). Every album is definitely a band effort, not just Helen Folasade Adu. So technically speaking, those guys are both Sade and Sweetback (not just Adu's backing band).
