PRINCE'S SADDEST SONGS

By sad, I mean somber music, depressing lyrics, tales of heartache, something that brings the pain or makes you think "this poor motherfucker." Maybe a song that makes you feel bad and you can't listen to it.
I generally don't find Prince songs to be all that sad, maybe a little lovelorn but not all out gloomy and miserable. What you got?

Purple Rain - sad lyrics, heartrending melody and a knee weakening falsetto at the end


Another Lonely Christmas - Somebody died right? Not so much sad as dull


Reflections - a sad song that perhaps wasn't meant to be sad?


17 Days - Funky and sad and depressing all at the same time.

Another Lonely Christmas, while sad, is pure fiction, which negates a bit of the imposed emotion in it.

Purple Rain isn't sad, so much as it's reflective, regretful, hopeful, and apologetic.

What's sad is the message in "Strange Relationship", or "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man", "I Love U But I Don't Trust You Anymore", "Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do", "Sometimes It Snows In April", "There is Lonely"...

anyway...strange relationship is definitely sad in that I think its one of few Prince songs that are really a confession and reflection into his disfunctionality (did I make a new word?). It's makes one sad for him.

I guess it depends where you are in life - Sonetimes It Snows In and April will be an obvious one but for me Arms of Orion and TMBGITW are far more sadd on a personal level because of where I was in life at the time.

Arms of Orion - my Gf had just left for uni and I was at a party without her when this came on.

TMBGITW - I had a mad crush on a girl who didn't know I wad alive, she eventually got interested around this time and the one of her friends told her something untrue about me and she cooled off to just about friends

when you look at the lyrics of LRC, it's kind of sad too. He's basically singing about getting played.
