3 Chains ''O'' Gold

From The Love Symbol Album

It’s so epic it almost sounds like Prince’s own version of Bohemian Rhapsody especially with the piano breakdown in the middle!

Am I the only one who thinks this or am I just crazy lol

Alot of people think so...even some members Of the the NPG of that time were quoted to say it was very simular with that Queen song.

I personaly love that song and it iz my favorite on the prince album....

Prince's guitar work iz outstanding and is in my top 5 solos by prince

The whole song is a total nod to Queen, whether intentional or unintentional. It's one of those "epic" type "thematic anthems". It's right in line with other huge songs like "Rhapsody in Blue". The Concerto For A Rainy Day on Side 3 of ELO's Out of The Blue album is the same way.

Beautiful Lyric

"U say U'll call me and then U don't
eye'll want 2 kiss U and then eye don't
We both do nothing and call this love
Is this love?"

Totally beautiful. Especially the falsetto delivery!

I've got a new thread and a dildo 4 U. If U don't like the new thread then U can go fuck yourself!

this may have got me in trouble with the Noise Police on at least one occasion.

And in comparing with that Queen track, it very much suggests P's willingness to remain alive rather than wallow in self pity. Like a self-determination of purpose versus a vapid oppression.

Chains is a unique song the whole Love Symbol album for me is one of Mr.Prince's great's very funky with alot soul, hip Hop & Rock N Roll mixed:D

And i don't think it was meant to be that way but it makes it unique just the way it is(:

On A Side Note

Prince doing Bohemian Rhapsody live would be AMAZING lol i'd love to see him sing the Mamma mia let me go part:D

This song is just quality, and is so well placed on the album coming straight after the relative calm of "And God Created Woman," (which is also fab), to give it maximum effect.

The best bit for me is the guitar solo. The sound he gets from his guitar is so emotive and really sets the hairs up on end on my arms! I did a mix tape of this song, and must've looped that solo about 6 times!

It reminds me of the guitar sound in a song collaboration by Curtis Mayfield and Fishbone, called "Flyguy," or "He's a Flyguy." Don't know if it's on an album at all, but it'll be on the net somewhere. It's also used in the film "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka," by the Wayan brothers, when Antonio Fargas is strutting down the street in a pimp suit.

The song is in no-way like 3 Chains, but it is funky, and well worth a listen if you can get hold of it.

I think Epic sums the song up pefectly.

Being such a prolific artist and killer guitarist, you'd think there would be more epic solos on his studio albums. It may be only about 10 seconds, but man is it powerful. I still find myself air-guitaring the solo every time I listen to the song...even the divebomb. smile

Isn't the expression on my complexion enough?

IwonderMe

Excerpt from the book Freddie Mercury: an intimate memoir by the man who knew him best written by Peter Freestone, Freddie's personal assistant.

"If he stayed in during the evenings he would usually 'veg out' and watch television. He would never work his life around television and only very rarely ask that we video something for him and then it would be a programme in which he had a special interest if a friend was appearing or if the programme was a live gig, a Prince concert for example. He had one video of a live Prince concert which he forced many people to watch, sometimes over and over again.
When Freddie settled down to watch such a three hour tape, it could take either fifteen minutes in which we watched only Freddie's specifically edited highlights or six hours when he would play the same bits over and over again
. It was either fast forward or play it again and again and again, Sam! These video sessions generally occurred at two or three in the morning after Freddie and entourage returned from an evening on the town. The Prince tape was inmediately put on and Freddie had sole control of the remote and his guests were subjected to Freddie's enthusiasm for said artist again and again and
again. I managed to avoid ever seeing it but the sound of it haunts me to this day! I was lucky in that I had the excuse of constantly getting drinks for the guests which kept me out of the sitting room.
I think Freddie admired Prince because he was so similar to when Freddie was young. Extrovert on stage, thin, dark, hugely energetic and with that charisma which turns a diminutive form into a giant."

It's also where the unreleased track "The Call" is first heard.

I liked it but the stroyline is a bit cheesy.

I wish I could just cut this part of the song out and leave the rest.
I'm not an electric guitar freak so that part doesn't attract me unfortuantely. But also I found the beat in the song beginning too simple.

But I listened to it again on the cd coz I didn't put it on my ipod and you're right it is a kind of "Bohemian Rhapsody" musically. Lyrically though, Bohemian Rhapsody is far more profound.
