Can you think of any live moments when Prince messes up his lyrics?

I was just listening to a boot of The Time doing Blondie, with Morris singing "Mind of a superstar, body of a ten year old" - now that is just plain wrong.

It made me wonder if there were any funny live moments where Prince messes up the lyrics??

Nightcrawler

At the second of the two recent Montreux-shows he got the lyrics to "I Love U But I Don´t Trust U Anymore" wrong during the second chorus, singing "I know U love me, but U don´t love me anymore" instead of "I know U trust me, but U don't love me anymore".
See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

I think it's in the second part of the Strollin'/U Want Me medley on the Live At The Alladin DVD where he just sings "bla-bla-bla" and then continues with another line lol

He fucked up the first verse of 'When I Lay My Hands on U' fairly royally on the first Montreux show, but had obviously gone away and worked on it, cause he nailed it on the second.
Take it - like Clarence said:

all different U know."

"....putting your things in faith" instead of "...putting your faith in things.." on the Rosie o'Donell show, while promoting the Emancipation album.

He messed up the first words on the original recording of "I Would Die 4 U" at First Avenue. He obviously overdubbed the correct lyrics later. Seems like he flubbed a few in "Purple Rain" at that same gig.

I'm not so sure that is a mistake, on every recording I have of Strollin/U Want Me he does the same thing. I've never really looked into it but I think that might be the actual lyrics, either that or he couldn't think of anything to go there!! lol

Cool, I thought that was the case. Which site was it posted on, NPGMC or 3121?

during one concert on the sott show he 4got the lyrics 2 housequake and wound up saying "uh uh uh jam b4 the police come"
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

He also messed up on D.M.S.R. from the same concert. First verse, third line.

NPGMC in the room where they also posted "The Moors In Spain" at one point, as I recall.

He flubbed Joy in Repetition on ONA: It Ain't Over - and released it, anyway.

I always thought that was a mistake. I haven't listened to it in a while but didn't he start the last verse too soon? Was that first guitar solo a cover for it?

He fucked up Prince and the Band on the My Band's Tight boot. Drum machine went crazy too. Nothing tight about the band in that particular performance.

I remember a Musicology show and Sign O The Times where he sang the first line a couple of times, seemed he wasnt into it and went into a different track.
Not actually sure what was going on there.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

On the NBC Today Show during the tribute to Bryant Gumbel's last day when Prince dressed like Bryant, he was performing Take Me With U/Raspberry Beret melody with an added part in the middle about Bryant's clothes. For a brief second he stumbled on the words (you could kinda tell on his face) but quickly remembered what came next.

I know that Prince being a totally live musician can definitely recover or improvise if things don't always go according to plan. I don't really get upset with performers who occasionally forget. I've seen Dolly Parton, Madonna, Tori Amos, and Jessica Simpson all perform live and flub or forget lyrics once in a while. We all do it.

I was wondering about that. "I'm not your lover, I'm not your man". I was curious if maybe that wasn't the track used on the album.

He got the timing wrong and he just started adlibbing, but he made it sound good, but he jacked them up pretty bad.
