What a perfect way to use the simple minor seventh which would soon be the precurser for hits like Falling To Pieces by Faith No More.

The rhythm already got your mind, body and soul hitched - the drum machine with the off-beat bass drum and this weird sound - I can't even define it - that's ever present right from the start at every fourth.

Add the funky major sixth guitar licks and those slick background vocals.

Oh, and the chorus! When the distorted guitar thrives and the chords start to wander...


This song is fucking great and so is the extended version - I love the ending there, with him creating some funky noises with his singing, doing the reverse melody of the keyboard a little bit off-beat.


To me, this song is the colour green.

Definitely a classic!! This was back when collecting Prince was fun...

I remember when I first heard this on a local radio urban station one Saturday night! The DJ was mixing it up. I started jumping up and down just knowing this was some new Prince! Went to the wrecka stowe the following day and bought the IIWYG 12".
