I think it would have made an interesting B-side or individual release, but it's not album-worthy.

your right in that it gets more casual goers and the younger generation interested, a lot of his new stuff would blaze up the charts if they were everywhere but, i agree with se7en.

yea i'm with u in the minority on this one. it grabbed me right away when i was listening to the PE link and i still like it. feels like a sexy summer song to me. and prince's vocals with shelby and bria just sound perfect.

It's one of Prince's near misses. Almost a good song if not for some occasionaly corny rhyming and a chorus that might have worked in '82, but by now is the earmark of someone who just doesn't get rap. It's not his worse song, but it sounds like it was put together by 'Band In A Box' or something like that. Prince wrote 'Holly Rock' during hip-hop's classic era and it was corny as can be back then, too. Prince and rap will always be a bad combination, he just doesn't get it. But on Mr Goodnight he wasn't bad for a lot of it, but then KABOOM! He fell into some bad rhyming habits.

I love this song!!!!! It's so catchy and cute. The line about "the little Spanish man" always makes me giggle, for some reason. Irish Diplomacy: The art of telling someone to go to hell, and having them look forward to the trip. My give a damn is busted.

2 me,it sounds like he was going 4 that same laid back hip hop groove of Notorious B.I.G.'s 1995 summer smash "One More Chance".The resemblence is uncanny! The chorus reminds me of TLC 4 some reason. Hey, I thought the same thing when I first heard this song, about the Biggy song.

It's very similar vocally to "Creep" from TLC. The Biggie song samples DeBarge's "Stay With Me", and "Mr. Goodnight" definitely has that vibe on it as well. Ernest L Sewell, IV

Amazing: causing great surprise or sudden wonder; to overwhelm with surprise or sudden wonder; astonish greatly. Mr. Goodnight: not amazing. "I never self-proclaimed myself to be anything." - Michael Jackson

I never could get into it..it sounds old..his rhyming delivery is medicore at best..but I always applaud his attempts at rapping..no matter how corny he sounds "OMGl,Isn't that Prince on the television Saul?, is he the strangest thing you've ever seen or what?"

MJPNFORLIFE said: Hi All,
I know you may think I'm crazy for saying this but I truly belive that Mr Goodnight is one of the best prince songs ever made. But I've noticed that alot of fans dont like it. I think the vocal arrangement, the beat and the lyrics are just amazing. I think because the content is a bit of fun people underestimate the greatness of this funky pop/rnb tune. When I first heard it I could not stop playing it and many friends who do not like Prince started getting into him after they heard it, they were amazed that he was still making such cool and sexy music. This song also highlights that Prince can make anything sound amazing! What does everyone else think ... I'm seriously hoping there are others out there who love this tune as much as I do! To Each His Own... anyway you must be a newbie or a young "fan"... nope ?

I wouldn't say it's one Prince's best songs ever, but it's decent. "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ ![]()

I agree...top 20 Prince song of all time.
MJ was a brilliant singer/dancer...best of all time, however, that's all he was. Let's not compare him to Prince, best musician of all time, but rather, compare him to someone like Sammy Davis Jr (who I don't hear anyone calling a musical genius).
