The album is definitely high register...The songs are just in a class by themselves. These songs are full. Complete of something...Prince was right-on...with this record for the 80's leaving the 70's sound.

Anything Prince does in the future is welcomed with open arms by me. cool

I'm sure Prince would love to duplicate the sales numbers with his new cut of the profits...D'Angelo's favorite Prince song is "Movie Star", love D - he had so much potential, hope he makes a big return.

He definately could've during that time with all the outtakes from that era. But now I dont think so..
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I would absolutely love to have a "1999" Part 2 album but that ain't going to happen.

But D'Angelo is an artist, if he wants an album like, why doesn't he attempt to make one like it himself instead of all that dull slow shit he makes. See, that's the problem. Some of the artists of the 1990s and 2000s actually like good music themselves but will not make music like that because they know the radio is only going to play slow stuff or shit hop. We will never get a style change for the better until somebody starts making what they actually want to and not give a damn.

Actually it was his favorite 'outtake' hence what caused Prince to release it on Crystal Ball. Its in the linear notes.

P once stated in a Rolling Stone interview back in 85 that he had his follow up to his 1999 album already recorded and in the can. Not Purple Rain but the album in between 1999 and Purple Rain. Man, ever since I first read that, I've been dying to hear that. I would love to see what material was planned for that. I've posted about this many times when I first joined this site...The "In Between" album. So anyways, THIS album P mentioned is as close to anything that you'll ever get from Prince and a 1999 Pt 2. This "in between" album probably didn't sound that close to the 1999 album anyways. P didn't use to be into duplicating himself. Especially in the 80's so he would never put out an album that sounded like 1999.

I wanted 1999 pt II as well. When I heard Purple Rain I was pissed.

But this was disucssed at HQ and I think either Boris or Langeblue figured out that he did not actually have 1999 part 2 in the can so to speak but was just speaking about it in a manner of that he "could have made part 2"

He'd have to let go of a lot of "restrictions" first.

If he could do that whole Controversy vibe with No More Candy, then he could do a 1999 vibe.

I partly agree.
No More Candy had a Ronnie Talk to Russia vibe for me (not the whole Controversy album).

He might be able to get a vibe on something, but a vibe alone won't cut it. You can't even begin to touch on stuff like Let's Pretend, Lady Cab Driver or International Lover with the cautious writing of recent years. 1999 was wild and free.

Been there, done that.

1999 is a hell of a perfect album, everything compared or attached to it would just go down, no matter how good it is. 1999 is a classic, remember.

Prince has repeated himself on many occassions. many muscians do.
u can still be innovative.
all d'angelo was tryin 2 requeast was a 1999 sounding album.
Meaning the instruments used and production.
once the groove are different and bass synth and keys it will have a different effect on the listener.
anyway 2 alot of people out there most of james brown music sounds the same.
somebody can repeat themselves but still sound innovative.

yeahthat x 1 million units sold
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
