The song that Prince rejected was 'Thug Life' by Ja Rule which took a sample of sort of 'Pop Life'. Ja needs 2 just L-I-G it and keep it moving. Prince reject way more worse songs than that one. LOL! |

Ja was just too much drama anyway. Prince is a business man and an artist. He's thinking from both angles constantly and if something is either not going to make him a shit load of money or if something will tarnish his art then he won't go along with it. I mean it's not like he won't ever let somebody sample or borrow...Alicia Keys did pretty nicely adding part of Purple Rain to her Never See Me Again single.

It seemed like a really easy thing for Prince to release and make lots of money off of, but I never knew if he was serious or not--or just trying stick it in the eye of Warner Bros. I think he might have been. There was that interactive commercial he added to the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 DVD, and I admit that when I first heard about the concept in 1999, I thought it was a genius idea. Might have been too much for him to take on. Maybe he didn't want to willingly surrender so many distinct sounds to other musicians. | |
