Why Do You Think "Black Sweat" Didn't Do Better?

Ive just been listening to black sweat and it made me think why do you think it didn't do better in the charts in 2006? I think its a REALLY good song

It was fine.

the chorus was poor.

Because it was never actually that good.

becuase prince didnt promote it very well

it wouldn't matter what prince released now...he danced with the devil (record industry) and whilst he won the battle, they will win the war....plain and simple the industry controls what is popular and in the charts - how else do you think some of the crap gets on the radio and TV these days...

Prince has burnt his own bridges... IMHO the biggest mistake he made is by treating his own fans with contempt most of the time...Housequake was always made out to be a thorn in prince's side..... it didn't close down over one night - it was years of constant bullying from Prince himself)

the parallels between the 'music industry' and what has happened so far with his 'clubsites' from NPGMC to LotusFailure.com and his battles with 'fansites' and even fans is ironic given that Prince once preached that music should be 'free' (it seems to be getting more expensive over the years - and I am not only talking monetary terms LOL)

all I can do is thank my lucky stars that I grew up in the 70's and 80's...the last decades where the music wasn't just a product for the corporations to get rich off (and Prince didn't do too badly either BTW- with their help)...

I mean, the what did Prince actually do in the video? In videos like 'Get Off' he was ripping dresses offa bitches, and in 'Kiss' he was getting his 'boogie' on, but on Black Sweat .... he's sipping coffee.

Bitch, if you're workin' up a black sweat, at least do something .



It's kind of like 'Kiss' from the PARADE album, but after you strip out the interesting guitar solo, and the vibrant mood. You're left with a bland, boring, drone of a song that bumps along on auto-pilot.

Plus Prince is viewed now in the public as kind of weird--to work up a black sweat, he'd need to be interesting enough for them to notice--and that video doesn't do it.

It´s only because it wasn´t promoted very well by a major label and a tour.
Like some ppl already said in here.

The tune is great imo and the video isn´t that bad either.

Because it sucked.

Te Amo Corazon was not every engaging (in other words, it was boring). I imagine if P released Black Sweat as the first single, it would have kicked much ass on the charts. The song is funktabulous.

It's a good song that was in strong rotation on all video channels. The main reason why it did not do better was because of the industry and the way things are measured now. Another reason is the guy is 50 and kids are listening to bullshit rap and r&b acts that are getting the play because they are guarenteed 1 hit wonders and don't have to be paid by the labels that push their music.

bad songs rank high in the charts all the time people has nothing to do with that.

Prince's demographic (or atleast a good portion of it) is over the whole singles thing, that's a kid's world and those kids don't want to see Prince.

Well, given all the hubbub about Prince spending 20 years in a pro-black church, it wasn't the best idea for a song title.

the screaming chorus was too stupid. It ruined the whole song.

Sadly, because Prince has become passe.

If Justin Timberlake did the same song... with the SAME title even, it would have been a #1 SMASH!

Maybe Prince should just start giving his songs away. (I don't mean this. I'm just bitter because "our hero" isn't mainstream anymore.)

Seriously... the song was "okay"... not great... but a contemporary singer could have taken it to the top of the charts.

Same with "Here" from Lotus Flower. Great song! Yet, ignored but the general "non Prince fan" public. So sad.

And that's to let you know that the contemporary music scene is bullshit. 25 years ago Aretha Franklin had a smash hit with Freeway Of Love. She was from my mother's era but I had the album and I still love Aretha to this day.Some of the Motown acts were still relevant and being marketed.Because of the mergers and takeovers of radio stations you hear what they want you to hear.The industry is not being run by music people anymore. It's being run by pea counters who only care about sales.

Artists like Prince can still sell millions of albums. They will not do it to the under 35 crowd because the younger people are trying to download everything and are not into his music as much as the over 35 crowd who are more likely to buy a CD. If that group is not marketed to then the sales will be down regardless to how good it is. People who are in this age category don't realize what's happeneing because they are working,paying morgages,etc. They also are more likely to listen to that radio station that has 12 songs in a rotation and will not allow anything on there that the bean counter does not allow.

Prince is passe?


Prince showed up in Nashville in 2004 after the worst dead period in his career and sold the arena out in 45 minutes and had every Country music star in town there jamming to his music.

Is he passe or is the current music scene passe?
