Purple Rain on Piano... As good as Prince is on the guitar, Ive always thought he was masterful on the Piano. Does anyone know if he has a recording of him playing Purple Rain on the piano? (aside from the snippet he played on Oprah in the 90's) | |

There's that one scene in Purple Rain where P plays the first bit of Purple Rain on piano and it's just awesome. I assume he recorded a full version for the sound track and if you were motivated enough you could find it. That being said, I have an MP3 file with the title "Purple Rain Sound Track" with a lot of the backing music from the movie, but of course it's missing the piano part. (I've also been looking for this one for a while lol) | |

Pick up any boot of the ONA tour, he use to play the piano and take out the guitar solo and just play the piano while singing the OOOOO OOOH OOOOO part. It was great! The Oakland show was fantastic, everyone just AWWWWed when they heard it. Rudedog | |

There's a bootleg called "Intimate Moments" it's all piano and him singing.

ONLY in your mind. I've played it and love Journey as well and they do NOT sound or play the same. Chord progression is almost the same. PR is in A# (which leads me to believe PR was written on, and for piano, as this key isn't very guitar-friendly), Faithfully is in D. Same progression though. There was a thread (a while ago on here) about "Faithfully" and "P.R" sounding just alike. It also said in that thread that Journey's camp and P's camp even settled some financial business (out of court) claiming that P ripped off Journey.

It's funny that this topic came up. I was just listening to the spin magazine free purple rain tribute album, and I couldnt help but think that the start of the song sounded like Faithfully.
