The song 4 me is about a love that should work. A love that U want 2 work, but 4 whatever reason it doesn't. The sex is good. The attraction is there, but something doesn't add up and that little something is the one little thing that U need 2 make it happen... and damn! That sucks every time!

As dark and ominous as some of the tracks on 1999 feel none are quite as dark as SOMETHING IN THE WATER (does not compute). With the drum machine set to panic, the song bubbles along sinking the listener into a well of desperation and despair. Prince lays it all out on this track, with those pained screams and frustration. The clash of sounds from the totally alien almost android music to the raw humanity of the vocals make this a brilliant track, and one of his most under-rated.

Prince's mastery of the LinnLM1 drum machine is on full display in this amazing track.

It's a good song to listen to with the lights out and candles lit, with the blinds half open letting in little slivers of moonlight.

It's one of my top favs..From the first listen..I use a part in the song as my signature and theme in real life. Great song.

My favorite song . I probably listened to this song more than any other song in my lifetime. To this day I still listen to it repeatedly.

love the song, but not the album version it is poor in comparisson to the alternative versions.

It's the best one on the album, is my theory

I'vre always dug how Prince just sounds like he means EVERY word on EVERY track, but this is just one of his more heart felt songs.

Personally, I don't know what he was going through relationship wise when it was released but I don't get why you'd want to hurt the sexiest guy alive like that

how can anyone say they don't like this classic track?...I think it's his best screams ever in any single song.. such heart-felt emotion.. you can feel his pain
