Prince's greatest closers?

I had recently gone back to listening to some of Rainbow Children and it brought back up to me a song at the end which I think is a gem " Last December ". I listened to it and like now I can't get it out of my head. It seems to me to be a beautiful song and got me to thinking that its a great album closer and also what do some of you guys and gals think are Prince's greatest album closing songs and do you agree its one of them? I know since i've heard it even if i'm not listening to it I can't get it out of my head. I love this song.

Do any of you agree and if not what in your opinion are some of his greatest album closers?

Party Up (leaves you wanting more)

Jack U Off (leaves you wanting to go and start the record over again, or at least restart side 2)

Purple Rain (nuff said)

Temptation (but withOUT that tag ending where he's talking to God, just jam and fade out)

Sometimes It Snows in April (just sums up the movie and album perfectly; however the song would have fit perfectly in the middle of side 2 with "All my Dreams" ending the whole set, to give an otherwise more somber story line a slightly brighter ending)

Adore (great climactic ending to an orgasmic record)

Batdance (brilliant fun eclectic song to end the album)

The Sacrifice of Victor (good ending on a loose story line, although 3 Chains could have ended it a bit better; either way that album is like a long, sweaty fuck session, and you're left just lying in a pool of your own sweat, catching your breath, overheated, and too tired to even move, but still relishing the time you had)

The fact that TRC finally ends is good enough for me.

Planet Earth should have ended that album. Should have opened with Guitar.

PS Edit: Great thread idea.

And I agree that the song Planet Earth would have been a great closer, too.

Haha I know some people really don't like Rainbow Children Ernest. I just think that even though that may be the case the song itself "Last December" may be an underrated gem on that album.

And that's fine. People here know my stance on that shindig of an album. Just can't stomach it. I never thought I'd be at a point in my Princetory where I would hate one of his albums, but BINGO....there we have it.

But, come on, you have to admit that it's one of his best musically. The lyrics, coupled with the desire to have a strong opinion about something, and not anything in between, may affect what you feel about the album as a whole, but there's no denying it's sophisticated, funky and special, is there?

So then you don't even like the song itself at all "Last December" I mean.

I guess you're saying you hate the whole thing totally.

I think The Rainbow Children is a self-disoriented joyless work. That being said, Last December is a great song.

The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

It's so up to its neck in sententious proselytizing that it forgets to have fun with itself; something that every great Prince album has managed to do to some degree.

I know people hate the preachiness on it but to be honest since the first time i've never listened to those parts all the way through to really know overall what point he's trying to make.

All I get is something about banished ones and rainbow children.

You can say you didn't listen to those parts, but plenty of people did. Most people are going to hear everything, and not shut out lyrics in favor of musicality or production. An artist wants an album to be taken as a whole, not dissected. I took the whole thing and shelved it.

It'd be nice if someone would tell me overall what was he trying to say then because whatever he was trying to get across really didn't make it to me.

i agree with u 100%....

"resolution" was not a bad closer...
I realy love this album...and feel it is highly under rated

But his best closer IMO would be "Reflection" off of the musicology album...

That maybe is the point of the record. Prince was not trying to have fun or convey lightness. U are boxing Prince in if u say it has to be "fun". Many works of art or not "fun". Prince is not limited to what your interpretation of what he should produce is. Its that very quality in Prince that makes him special.
