Computer Blue vs Automatic

i picked these two because they are long as hell, and have very interesting beats
they both have a nice little instrumental part were he let the beat play for like 3 minutes, they both have vocals from girls(either wendy or lisa or jill jones. cool

Computer Blue may be his best work ever
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I can't stand Automatic, so Computer Blue wins by default.

Computer Blue..I like Automatic but it's just way too long.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I love both these tracks. I always think of them as a pair, two brothers.

Computer Blue is the better for me, but that changes daily.

The 11 minute computer blue is untouchable.

cool

My vote goes to Automatic. Tremendous song!

Computer Blue might be the better song, but I listen to Automatic far more frequently. Maybe it's because Computer Blue is surrounded by phenomenal songs on a great album.

With that being said, I still vote for Automatic. It's just a groove. I can work out to it, I can drive to it... and I for damn sure can get off to it! wink

When Prince says "I'll go down on you... all night long... it's automatic"... that's arguably the HOTTEST line he's ever spouted!
The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

automatic, for me. just an amazing suite of a song love. the released version of computer blue is probably my least fave off of the ever perfect purple rain. just cuz it feels a bit "unfinished", if you know what i mean. just one verse. the un-released super long "hallway speech" version is fucking amazing though headbang. was bumpin' that the other day. awesomeness. trumps any other version. some of his deepest, most "introspective" stuff, imo. hard to say, but yeah cool
life's a bitch, but god forbid the bitch divorce me...

WOW! This is interesting! Just think some parts of the live version of 'Automatic' around the time of 1982-1983 were later used 4 the recording of the unreleased alternate version of 'Computer Blues'. I like both songs! They r both classics.

A-u-t-o-matic is a really cool, interesting song. But it reminds me of Emancipation's "Joint to Joint" where it just never seems to end..

The version of Computer Blue that ended up on Purple Rain at least felt like a proper song, and I have a bias towards it, cause it was the song that made me a Prince fan.

I heard it playing on a Dolby Stereo (state. of. the. art. in 1984, son talk to the hand ) and was blown away by the abrupt change in the song and the guitar parts, and of course the fact that it bleeds into Darlkin Nikki jerkoff

So, yeah.. Computer Blue lol

I have to go with Computer Blue... it, lyrically, picks up on the sonic themes of Automatic and runs away with them.

I happened to listen to both of these yesterday (and their respective albums). I sometimes forgot just what a complete stunner the Purple Rain album is when I actually dedicate some time to listen to it.

The drumming/programming especially blew me away on Computer Blue. I'm really loving this song in a way I haven't in quite awhile.

I love both songs, I've always like the Computer/Digital flavoured music

Automatic
Compture Blue
Something in the Water Does Not Compute
Data Bank

I always though Computer Blue was too short, not until years later did I find that there were lengths ranging from 11min - 14min

I can listen to the longest versions all the time all the way through
Computer Blue is my choice though

the guitar work takes me away the drumming/percussion, is a rock masterpiece
and that it's actually a live rendition that sounds like studio work gives it a few more + + +
