Purple Vinyl Surprise

So I'm at a record store today looking for whatever. It's a great little used place here in town, that I've rebuilt my whole Prince 12" collection from. I don't have all the albums on vinyl, but I do have most all the 12". A few promos too.

So today I'm browsing through dollar CDs, and I see "EMANCIPATION" in big orange letters. It was the CD promo with edit and album versions. Okay cool.

I find Klymaxx's Meeting In The Ladies Room LP on vinyl. $1. Nice.

Then I head to the Prince vinyl bin. Dirty Mind. Don't need it. SOTT. Nope. Misc 12". Nope. "Purple Rain" single promo with Album / Edit $6. Okay not bad. I hope it up....PURPLE vinyl. Now I have the album, regular 12", 7" and the "When Doves Cry" 7" all on purple vinyl. But I didn't know a promo for radio stations existed on purple vinyl. Needless to say there was smoke behind the record as I pulled it out of the bin.

So $8 later, I was happy with my 3 purchases. So that's 5 purple vinyl I have now from or OF that album, plus the purple vinyl of 1999 New Master. Sweet.

YEP. It looks more pink in your pic. For everyone - it's actually a darker purple, mostly transparent (opposed to the opaque Purple Rain disks). I think the PR disks looked more lavendar.

I've never played my 1999 new master, nor have I played the other purple vinyl that I remember. No reason to really.

I just need to find two more colored disks. The 7" of "True Blue" from Madonna that was a blue disk. AND a very rare (if it even exists anymore) 7" red vinyl of some song about E.T. It was a big hit after the movie came out.

Yep, it's the light. Here it is on the table, very dark purple this way (almost looks black):

It wasn't the soundtrack. It was some dude (possibly a duo) that put out a song about E.T. It was a country song, or a rockabilly type song I think. Kind of funny, but not too "Weird Al"-ish. I remember it was the same song on both sides of the record. I don't know if he/they ever did a whole album, but I suspect it was a one-off single. I remember buying it at Target.

Edit: After some digging, here's what I found. This is it:

"We Called Him E.T." by Tom Wayne

Well, at least now I know the guy's name.

At one point in History certain record labels would put different genres on different color vinyl, for example, pop on black vinyl, country on green, R&B on red and so on. Later it was just a gimmick to get people to buy the record. Here are some of my colored vinyl (non-Prince):

Misfits-Collection (This one is now autographed, this picture is before I got Jerry Only to sign it):

Kiss my ass (Kiss tribute album featuring Lenny Kravitz, Garth Brooks and others):

Grand Funk-We're an American band:

Blondie-Heart of glass:

Alice in Chains-Grind:

White Zombie-More human than human (10" yellow):

The Cure-Friday I'm in love (this one is actually pretty rare and worth some decent money):

Dead or Alive-You spin me round (like a record) (Mexican pressing):

Reba McEntire-You keep me hanging on (Reba does house music, no kidding):

Funkdoobeist-Bow Wow Wow:

I like to buy Prince albums for 2 reasons:
ITS PRINCE, of course and
the album sleeves. Most of the album sleeves have cool pics/imgaes on them..

Say it's just a dream...
U open up ur eyes and come 2 realize
u simply imagined this
So u lean over and give her a kiss
Here on earth, here on earth,
with u it's not so bad
Here on earth, here on earth
eye don't feel so sad
Stay right here
