3. Elixer

Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. Last time I checked, Prince isn't dead yet.

You really don't like them, how come. I am just interested, no malice or hate involved.

I tried. I listened, a lot. I think I ended up listening to Bria's more than the other two combined for some reason. But I've grown SO bored with them. It's NOT that exciting. God I remember when a Prince album on the shelves was like gold. I couldn't reach fast enough to grab it and absorb it even before I hit the cash register, yet time slowed down just getting TO the register. But nowadays, it's not the same. I was hopeful for Lotus, because Planet Earth had been such a strong, strong album. At first, I thought....oh, not bad. I was drawn to MPLSound more. Then I found myself, after a few listens, skipping songs. "Oh, I'll skip that one, I don't care much for it." Then it was skipping two, then three, then I'd just play one disk or the other. Then after about 2 weeks... I realized I wasn't listening at all anymore. I just grew bored with it. I even took them off my iPod to listen to in the car.

Maybe I'm too hard on Prince. He's old. He's still got a swagger in his music but he's lost a bit of his mojo. He'll always be captivating and stunning as a live performer and musician. But the flare, the pomp and circumstance, the "OMG DID YOU HEAR THAT?" sense is faded a bit.

So who knows. Even after people here raved about TRC and Musicology (two albums which I despise, in that order), I thought....well, I'll go listen again. Maybe I missed something. I was totally not surprised when my original stance on 3121 and Planet Earth being the better albums of the 00's (PE being the best by a few points) was re-realized.

Maybe I'll go listen to Lotus and MPLS again. Might do it tonight. No promises on my reaction.

Lotus Flow3r - 9/10

MPLSound - 4/10 (U're Gonna C Me and Here are fantastic, and they're the only tracks I like on the album.)

Elixer - 7/10

I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

LOL! I still throw TRC in from time to time, just to see if my mind has changed on it, I'll suddenly get it, something...anything will catch my attention, grab my imagination but each and every time...my initial response always wins out! It was crap on toast to me when it first came out and it remains so to me, this very day! shrug

Well whilst I've been surfing for the last hour I've had MPLSound on. It's just finished. Literally. Funny how some albums take so long to become likeable. I didn't skip a single song. I think I listen to Prince too much though. I'm sure it's stinting my musical growth.

1) Elixer - Bria is sexy. I like about 4 of the tunes
2) Lotus -
3) MPLSound -

I've paid more for imports of maxi-singles back in the day than the entire set cost me, so if I only like 4 or 5 songs that's still great value. If this were titled 'Crystal Ball II' people would be cumming all over there keyboards talking about how great it is. So, Lotus for me is a hit and miss collection of outtakes that are best enjoyed as companion tracks for similar Prince songs already released.

OKay I tried to listen last night. I got through Lotus, but was bored by the time "Love Like Jazz" came on. I didn't make it past "Chocolate Box" on MPLSound.

Elixir has a real soothing sound rose martini That last track is 'signature' Prince and his magnificent sound adds highlights to this CD's background yes

From 'Boom', to 'Crim/Clo', to '4ever' to 'colonised mind' to 'Feel Better....'

To 'exit the Lotus'

LFlower is in my opine, a bit better than TRC

'Colonised Mind' is his best track in 10 years??
