A cool story about Prince I will never tire of telling...(do you have one)?

It was at the very end of the first time I saw Prince live in concert - Hit&Run 2001, San Diego, early April. The last encore (of four, I believe) was Kiss, and it was just him, a drum machine and bass guitar, and it was clear that he was not wanting to leave the stage. I snuck down from my seat (Cox Arena, in the wayback seats, LOL), to get as close as I could, and I know he didn't know who I was or that I was even there, except as part of the crowd, but it was the strangest thing - he was making a point of making eye contact with as much of the audience as was possible, and even from 200-300 feet away, he's got that type of gaze that when he looks out at you, it's like he's looking RIGHT AT YOU! I've never experienced anything quite like that before.

Do you have a Prince story that you love to tell over and over again?

I'm guessing you have an almost identical experience as mine - when and where was yours, what song, and how close were you?

It was the "Purple Rain," tour and I had come into soundcheck around 4pm. I was directly across from Prince in the first row of the 2cd balcony. I was the only person there besides anyone backstage or the sound engineer. I don't believe Prince could see me.

Prince played something and had a little fit for some reason and stood up and kicked his piano bench behind him about 7 feet. I thought it was very cute and funny. cool

March 2006 he was at a new club in Houston performing with Tamar. It was mainly her show but everyone was there to see Prince of course! They opened the doors late and the show didn't start til almost midnight. There were no seats; just pay your $ and get as close to the stage as you can (kinda like the scenes from Purple Rain). Anyway, I was about 3 rows back directly in front of him. I filled my purse up with left over Valentine's candy that I bought for my husband. The show was the first Saturday in March so it wasn't old candy. It was a bunch of Starbursts, Jolly Ranchers, and Blow Pops. Everytime he hit one of those notes on the guitar I would throw a handful of candy on the stage. One piece even hit his guitar. He quickly turned and looked to see what was being thrown on stage. The twins were dancing and had to kick candy out of their way to keep up with their routine! Later in the show they began to let people on stage while he was playing "Play that Funky Music White Boy." My sister in law was on the other side of the room and I noticed her on stage. By this time I was still on the floor but I could touch the stage. I had one bag of candy in a cellophane bag with a ribbon on it. I tried to hand it to Prince, but he was playing guitar and strugged his shoulders, shook his head, and mouthed to me with a grin, "I can't." I kept trying to get him to take it and the people around me pushed me up on stage while a few on stage pulled me up. I got on stage barefoot with purse in hand and a bag of candy and tapped Prince on the shoulder while he was playing and tried to hand him the bag of candy. He never stopped playing. I left it on the DJ stand with Rashida. After the show, security was picking the candy off the floor and eating it. I yelled, "Hey, that's Prince's candy!" My sister in-law and I laughed all the way to her house and called everyone to tell them we got on stage with Prince (it was after 3 am). When I got home the next day my husband went into the pantry and asked, "Where is all my candy?" I told him, "Prince has your candy!" He shouted, "You gave all my candy to that *****!" HILARIOUS, I still get a kick out of telling that story! lol

I have 2. The 1st was at the House of Blues aftershow for the last L.A. show he did for the Musicology tour. I don't rememeber what song he did but I made my way to the front of the stage and before I knew it Prince was looking dead at me. He even started to lean closer towards me. I was frozen solid when he did that. He gave a cowbell to the guy next to me after that happened but the fact that he looked at me gave me chills. It still does lol I also shook John B's hand at the Staples Center. I was too thrilled with that. That whole night was incredible.

The 2nd story was at the last show I went to at the Hotel Gansevoort here in Manhattan this past October. It was the Charity show that I won tickets for (Thank you prince.org!) and I was in the front row just like at the HOB's and Prince had just gotten on the stage & he was getting his equipment all setup. Then he asked everyone if we could hear him. I put my right thumb up and nodded yes and as I looked up, he was looking dead at me again. This time he nodded back at me and after that he started the show! The first song was a song we all didn't know at that time, which I found out later on was "Colonized Mind". Man that whole night was a blast. I had a small conversation with Marva King, spoke briefly with Shelby J and Morris Hayes who gave me a handshake. Man just thinking about October 10th-11th show gives me goosebumps again! Prince needs to tour again, don't you agree? lol
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I was at that show and it was my first Prince show too! I remember him doing Kiss and man was it hot! Oh that show was on April 27th, 2001. I only remember that because that was my birthday gift to myself and the show was one month and a day after that. I can't believe that was 8 years ago. Time sure does fly.

That's awesome; I was at that concert too. It was just a few days after my birthday as well. I loved that show.

My Prince story is at another San Diego Prince show, though--the one that was at the Rimac Arena during the Jam of the Year tour. I was down on the floor for the whole concert, pretty close to the stage, and near the end (I think it was during Sleep Around but it might have been Mr. Happy), I was dancing away like a fool who has no business dancing (plus, it was crowded, so I couldn't really move that much). Prince looked at me and kind of smirked at my poor dancing for a second. It wasn't mean or anything--just a funny look. I still find that moment funny.

I have a few great stories.. He was at the Chicago Theater in 93
and I was in the 3rd row. It was right near Easter So I found a
really cute stuffed bunny and used fabric markers and got a kids
Tshirt and painted up a cool shirt for it. during the show I kept
holding it up for him to take.. but he was always busy..
after he re entered the stage for a break he walked up to the front of the
stage.. right in front of me looked directly at me and smiled..
I moved to the stage and he reached down and took the rabbit. smile
He said "is this for me?" And I said "Yep, for you".. He said
"thank you".. then he looked at the bunny and Hugged it. smile
Michael B did the heart beat on his drum. smile
then Prince smiled at me and said "this is my night".. then he walked back
and set the stuffed animal on the floor by his piano so it could
be seen by everyone smile When the show was over Damin came back on
stage and picked the rabbit up and took it back stage!!! smile

Another time I was at Glam Slam and me, my husband Tony M and his
girl friend all danced together. Me and Tony were bumpin' hips and
singing.. Prince was up with the DJ..

and yet another time I was at Paisley park and got to be in his
Days of Wild video.. TWO times. You can CLEARLY see me
dancing in 2 shots!!!!! smile
I almost died when they showed it on VH1
I got a couple dozen phone calls .. "We saw you.. we saw you" Hee hee
Very cool!!!!! smile

You know what's funny about that is when I was little my Mom told me that half of my ethnic background was Middle Eastern and not to tell too many ppl that because they might think I was a terrorist. I was only like 7 years old when she said it and I think about that often, strange to be ashamed of who you are and not have done anything wrong at all~

Gotta say, I'm a Brit and just spent 3 months in Egypt and Jordan doing voluntary work and tourist sites too - the people are so genuinely friendly and honest I was blown away. I have returned to the UK genuinely moved and wanting to be a better, nicer person, like my Arab neighbours!

After the Family Jam, I flew out to Hawaii to see the 2 shows. During the soundcheck Prince walked up and handed me a tamborine.

I also was in attendance for the LA Musiclogy show, the one that was shown at the movie theaters. I was one of the people that got one stage halfway thru the show. Now while onstage, during Take Me With U, Prince leans on my back and does a guitar solo. The cool thing is while it was been shown back home in Detroit, a friend caught that moment on his camera and sent it to me.

I've had a couple at Paisley Park too, but some of my favorites are the people I have met thru being a Prince fan.

During the 3121 stop at the Rio in Vegas, I was standing front row, just to the right of center stage. Toward the end of the song "Lolita" where he calls out to the fella's he was stading right in front of me, not 3 feet away and I was responding right on cue. He looked down at me, smiled and the next thing I knew he put the microphone right in my face. All of a sudden I'm the guy doing the crowd chant for "Lolita"! He pulled the mic back to do his part and gave it back over to me to do mine. Freaking awesome!

When I got home the next day my husband went into the pantry and asked, "Where is all my candy?" I told him, "Prince has your candy!" He shouted, "You gave all my candy to that *****!" HILARIOUS, I still get a kick out of telling that story! lol
