Colonised Mind

Is it just me or is this song one of the best things he has recorded in the last twenty years? It's got that rare combination of cool guitar, a memorable melody and chorus/refrain, thought-provoking lyrics focusing on the wider world and it builds to a powerful crescendo. Although many have said they find the lyrics a bit hypocritical at least he seems to have crafted a meaningful SONG as opposed to a cool groove that he just jams on and apparently improvises some lyrics (Bria anybody?).

It's a bit of an updated 'Sign O' The Times', only slightly more judgemental and shows Prince to be quite an articulate guy.

Btw who's playing drums on 'Colonised Mind,'Wall of Berlin' and 'Dreamer'?

No, it's shit just like everything he's done since Lovesexy.

lol Just kidding, I love it. I wanted to know how it felt to be a "hater" for a minute there.

I think Cora is on drums on Colonized Mind and Dreamer. Not sure about Wall of Berlin without out checking the credits.
He is exactly who we thought he was

bigbrother, when U say it is "Sign 'o' the times," I honestly believe it is the sign of "Now!."

This is a fantastic intellectual song that addresses the FACT that we are fed information that we can either use wisely or take for granted.
The only wise choice we really have...(Wyz) if you are up 2 par....Is 2 make a positive difference in our own lives and touching the world as far as we can from our circle of relationships.

With, "Colonized Mind." Prince has been a teacher...A guide...I pray that the wisdom of this song sinks into the hearts' and minds' of every listener, because it is time 4 the world to gel with these principles for the sake of "World Love," and Universal Happiness. cool

I really like how the crescendo builds and the style and sound of his voice. The drums sound very CC style.

correct spelling is only essential when one is writing a negative review of prince's album for pitchfork.com. at all other times, spelling is but a trifling annoyance.

Fantastic song!

From Colonized Mind:

Upload, the 2 party system
The lesser of 2 dangers,
Illusion of choice

Download, their form of fascism
Nothing really ever changes
You never had a voice

Listen to me one time :

If you look, you’re sure gonna find
Throughout mankind’s history
A Colonized Mind

The one in power makes law
Under which the colonized fall
Without God, it’s just the blind leading the blind

I appreciate the message here: Man has the inability to rule man. Human governments have and always will fail.

I think this is one of those songs that, years after P. is gone, will be recognized as one of his best of his post WB music. The melody, the lyrics, the solos. Plus, unlike much of his recent stuff, it actually has a great chorus.

I also love the fact that it, maybe more than any other officially released song, SOUNDS like an aftershow. It has a really cool effect on the vocal. The live band feel, the tone of his guitar...

Awesome.

I think it is the worst song Prince has ever done. In my opinion, he is the greatest musician of all time. That doesn't give him the privilege to "educate" people by making statements about science that are just plain ignorant or making statements about politics that show a lack of understanding.

Prince, please stick to music and stay away from politics or (especially) science. There is nothing thought provoking about it; it is just plain silly!

I agree the lyrics are ignorant nonsense and its scary that many are congratulating them.

Sonically and melody wise its one of the better songs on his new albums though IMO.

Just to let you know that colonisedis considered correct on the other side of the pond, although I concede that since Prince is American I'm duty-bound to spell it his way as it appears on the album!
