ona live is flawless, only a complete freak would complain about it! i love the audience participation! i love it when he asks the audience their "family name" and one girl says "Rebecca" and prince does an imitation of her voice its really funny! | |

I think it's funny that some people are never satisfied. Peeps, nothing in this life is perfect. I think ONA Live is great. I am constantly amazed at the whinging about such ridiculous things...oh well...I've had my say...actually there's more but then I'D be whinging. peace. | |

Isn't that the beauty of interpretation? I see your point but I STILL hold to my version. In the song you hear the din of the crowd becoming quieter as if he's walking into the club only to hear her saying this line. Also, which holds more dignity? 4 letter cuss words or LOVE? Either way it still sucks that Prince chose to spew religious propaganda during this song. I agree, Organ...however, you did indicate that it was Prince who "totally missed the point of the song"..which indicates that your view isn't merely a personal take on the lyrics, but the correct take...I think his altering of the lyrics (which I wish he hadn't done also) points to the meaning behind his origina lyrics were more in line with what sb23nc said... | |

Personally I am not over impressed with the It Ain't Over disc. There are some great moments on it but it does not live up to the hopes I had for it when I saw the track list. I was hoping for a real ripping version of Peach but we got some sprawling jam with a couple of lines spoken and the 'turnaround' when that sectin kicked in I thought, "cool, here we go", but no. Same with Girls and Boys.
For me these sort of jams are best experienced live, watching the emotions on the players faces, watching Prince's hands on the guitar. I feel they lose a little something when taken out of that environment. Mind you, it has only had a couple of listens, it might grow. Funky as anything version of Alphabet Street though. RIP  | |

i dunno. i don't like when he edits curse words out of live performances or old songs AT ALL but i can deal with all his silly "all you sorry americans" and "no 4-letter words will be heard up on this stage tonight" and "telemarketers, bill-collectors and fanatics need to get they blanks down on the road..."'s in the new live stuff. as long as he's filling the space with melody, i can kinda dig his all-ages family affair shenanigans...i mean, my sister can play ona live for the nephews...SWEET. jackson's gonna love it, i just know  No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

While I wouldn't say "hate" (it's far too strong of a word) the only bit I am not completely thrilled with is the "It Ain't Over" disc. Surely there were better tracks done at the aftershows he could have included instead?
I'm not really much of a George Clinton fan so "We Do This" got annoying really fast. The medley with Musiq isn't too hot either. I just don't like his voice, at all. It does absolutely nothing for me. "One Nite Alone Live", however, is perfect. "La La La Means I Love You" would've make terrific icing on an already tasty cake but I understand why it was not included too. Who's the private d*ck that's a sex machine to all the chicks?

Actually, I agree completely with you... I think most people's "hate list" is really just a "wish list"...wish he had done this...wish he hadn't done that...but it's only because we're such huge fans that we find ways to make a 3-CD boxed set perfect for us individually...I personally would love to have live versions of "Calhoun Square" and "Beautiful Strange" on the aftershow CD...it would have made this already fantastic live box set just become mindblowing...but that doesn't mean that what is included is bad...
So, like you said, I don't hate anything about this set...it's phenomenal just the way it is... | |
