I think Craig David did this list.
I don't have time to listen to new music, I've got too much old Prince to discover. Classic example : I was at club Nokia at the midnight show and didn't know "In a large room with no lights" . . . my bad Prince

Usher, Dizzee Rascal, The Strokes and The Arctic Monkeys certainly don't belong on that list and Craig David shouldn't even be near the top 100 list, let alone number TWO! That being said, I like a lot of the other artists on the list, although I would like to see Prince and The Smiths higher on the list.

who is craig david?

This list tries to hard but not a bad list overall in terms of britpop. Artic Monkeys is a great album. But a list that doesnt include Belle and Sebastian or Smashing Pumpkins is just plain wrong and dont get me started on Automatic for the People.

Craig David's record was a very very good POP record. Just outstanding along with Ushers Confession album (http://www.amazon.com/Confessions-Usher/dp/B0001F7UHA) just pure R&B POP mastery. That being said how it could be rated 2nd of all time is a bit of a mystery. Just interms of its reach (people) it doesn't belong. But yes its really really good

Nothing wrong with POP records when they are really good. Prince taught all of us that

I also think that Off the Wall is a better album than Thriller but totally get why Thriller is here

Dammit... I understand the "prestige" of the Thriller album, but c'mon... is it really better than Purple Rain? Seriously?
Besides, Purple Rain backed an epic film that was unheard of at the time... Thriller just spurred a string of music videos that, I admit, were what made the 80's an awesome decade.

Musically, I still don't believe it should be like this.
I wouldn't give Purple Rain #1, but Thriller shouldn't be ahead of it in the ratings. Just shouldn't.

As for the rest, I don't know much about Craig David, I hear he's good.
Guns and Roses, I suppose, I can overlook. Their music is just too harsh for my ears (too much heavy metal and screaming for my tastes).
U2... curse you! like its not enough they got Album of the Year over SoTT rolleyes
Amy Whinehouse?! did they forget what happened to her? and its too soon to be called "greatest of all time"
Kayne shoot ...too soon and can't stand him stab
brick Eminen shoot stab ...rappers done let the music industry down... keep away from my favorite radio stations and we'll be fine
The Strokes & Rage against the Machine... I've heard things shrug

In fact, a lot of these albums haven't been around long enough to be be called greatest anything. Maybe a lot of the voters are rotten kids (preteens to early 20's, my generation sadly) that know nothing about what good music is hmph!

The Human League is another one I'm impressed made the list hmmm
they have such a nice sound.

I guess I'll keep an eye out on MTV for this shrug I haven't gotten alone with that station since I was maybe one falloff that's when everything was awesome and worthy of airing... no crappy reality TV or low-rate radio mish-mosh
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Craig DAVID??! You must be joking! Prince must have pissed someone off over at MTV because anyone who is going to be watching that (hopefully) knows that Prince might as well be taken off the list out of respect, for being put so low when he should be in the top 5 if not #1. i wonder where this list came from, theres a lot of alternative music on there and i dont want to say "white" but its on the tip of my tongue. mad

Maybe it's just me but I think..scratch that, I KNOW The Mars Volta should be on this list..and the whole Craig David being #2 is bull..the fact that his album is higher than Prince is just not right..this list is not the business.

Fuckin', lolz. Thank God we can access music online and arent fed by outlets such as mtv/bet. This list is utter shit. Not as a whole, just the bolded selections.

Albums that are good enough to be on that list, just off the top of my head (for fuck's sake, mtv!)

Cage-Hell's Winter
Prince-Sign o The Times
Nine Inch Nails-The Fragile, or Year Zero
Beck-Guero
The Gza-Liquid Swords
Public Enemy-It takes a nation of millions

for fuck's sake, even recent shit like Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' "Dig Lazarus,Dig!" is better than some of the albums on that list. They should poll people, or critics or editors at music magazines. This list is outright laughable.

That's probably why the list is crap. Someone probably said "lets do a greatest album list, its been awhile since we dabbled in music" and the people puttin the show 2gether were busy with "the hills" so they just wrote down whatever album they remembered that was big.

The fact that there are 2 Oasis albums on here, as well as Usher, Jay-Z, and Kanye West really strip any and all credibility from this list.

There's no Beatles, no Rolling Stones, no Pink Floyd or Doors. No Stevie Wonder, no Metallica, hell, not even any Madonna! (not that I think she should be on this list, but she should be on it before these fools listed).

Seriously. Who's voting for this shit?

I agree. No Sticky Fingers, Let It Bleed, Out of our heads,Dark Side of the moon, electric ladyland,Cypress Hill's Temple of Boom, Songs for the deaf, Duran Duran's Rio (or my personal favorite Medazzaland).....I'm sure we could go on, what a hilarious list.

Thriller and Purple Rain are only 2 years apart, but Purple Rain has aged FAR better than Thriller has after 27 years.

I think the nostalgia of Thriller (the early 80s, the videos, the moonwalk, the zipper jacket, your youth) is what keeps it going. Musically, it's not #1 - not by a longshot. Purple Rain isn't either, but it's closer . . .
