'in a large room with no light' - my all time favourite unreleased Prince song...can't believe it's been played live...hopefully this means it'll be released one day!

some other corkers in that set too from the looks of it...i haven't read the reviews yet, just seen the set list...surely with a set list like that it must have been amazing?

What the fuck has gone wrong with the Prince fan community? I would give all my testicles and some of the testicles of my friends to hear Prince play this song live and all we get is a bunch of 'journalists' who have no clue AND NO response from the ORG - which should be positively orgasmic at the thought of such a song being played live... will it be on the website? is Prince getting more casual about what's in the vault? Can we expect a Crystal Ball II?

What the fucks wrong with this site!? IN A LARGE ROOM WITH NO LIGHT and this place is not off the scale?

Call yourselves fans?

I think its a case of a large change in the fan base.

Prince sueing his fans, coupled with his weaker output has seen an exodus of the long term fans.

In their place is a new majority of fans and fams who have more knowledge of pictures of his ass than his output of music.

Its been very evident post 2004.

Its been very evident on the org since the official forums closed. There was a mass migration of fam worshippers who had no home to go to.

This is very true. It's the main reason I really don't post that much anymore.

There are still some of us old timers around .. Large Room with No Light... "Welcome 2 the Rat Race" ... That would certainly go on my bucket list next to Electric Intercourse and Old Friends 4 Sale live .. (OF4S 85 version of course)[i]

It definitely was not awful. I actually responded to that thread. Of course, we are all free to our opinions, but I thoroughly enjoyed the performance and arrangements of all the songs. Prince's voice and delivery overall were fantastic, and the bands were wonderful. Prince and the bands seemed to really enjoy playing the songs. There were some kinks here and there but nothing major. Also, the fans in my section had a great time as well. The only people who were not into the show where I was were the drunk people who kept yelling "Purple Rain" and "1985." However, those were the same people who did not know "In a Large Room..." or basically anything else that was not from the PR album. That said, when the show was over people were cheering and stomping for more, but the lights came on and we had to go home.

Also, I would not make the blanket statement that P's fanbase has changed dramatically. There were some people at the late show who were more casual and did not know a lot of the songs. However, overall, I think each show represented the diversity of Prince's audience. The main show attracted the largest, mainstream audience. They loved singing along to all the hits that some hardcore people here say they are tired of hearing. The Conga Room show was the smallest venue with only about 1100 capacity, and this was the hardcore fanbase because the majority of the people knew songs like "I'm Yours" and "Empty Room." The guy behind me even knew "Colonized Mind" as soon as it started. Finally, the last show was at a 2300 capacity venue so you had a mix of hardcore and casual fans. The hardcore fans sang along to stuff like "I Love U but I Don't Trust U Anymore" and "She Spoke 2 Me." And the mainstreamers sang along to "Beautiful Ones" and "Nothing Compares 2 U."

All artists who benefit from long careers lose part of their fanbase over time, so I do not think P is any different. However, I just would not say that he has lost an overwhelming amount of fans to where folks did not know the obscure songs or enjoy the show. Some of the fanatics on this site or the now defunct HQ might have lost interest because of the law suits or other stuff, but most casual fans do not even know or care about that stuff.

you know i never run into these people who only know 'purple rain.' most people i run into are still pining for him to return to the 'diamonds and pearls' sound.

Did he butcher the hell out of it? Does anyone know? If he did I wouldn't be one bit excited. Well maybe one bit but I'd be so hateful that he JWd up am amazing song that it would be totally ruined.

I doubt it.

When you have a fan on another thread with over 7000 posts, but has to ask if there was a Camille album, you know the dynamics have changed!

I don't mean that in as an attack on that fan, its just a sign o the times.

Damn !

When I saw that set list, I just sighed. I left Los Angeles in mid 2006 and missed quite a bit of funk in the last three years. Never thought I'd see that on the board. Any threads discussing how it sounded? Did he just give a taste or serve up the whole thing?
That's one of the songs up there with Moonbeam Levels and Electric Intercourse.
Surprised to see the Sun, the Moon and Stars up there too. No where near Large Room, but I always liked that song though.

As far as the change in fanbase goes, I just think Prince has a new batch of fans nevertheless. He has been more in the public eye since the Musicology -tour and due to the various TV -performances and other performers copying his style here and there.

F%ck, I was around even when Prince and his folks were seriously consulting the fans on the internet whether the NPG should be called something else (.. and if "yes" then what? eek).

Funny he didn't do the verse that contained the one line that many used to refer to this song by. "welcome to the rat race"..
Back in the days of the PPML fro

Yeah, I know that he doesn't curse any more, but these were some great lyrics.

Every time U wake up there's a little motherfucker
Talkin' big stuff in your face
U only get the kind of people that open their mouth just 2 swap feet
Welcome 2 the rat race
