4ever - give it up for a perfect pop song

"4ever" is proof that Prince still can craft that perfect pop song... in the hands of a record label with a big promotional budget, this song would get a lot of traction on pop radio.

It's not too overwhelming in its Prince-ness... a nice upbeat melody, almost timeless lyrics (the bit about Jill Scott dates it much the way "Dynasty" references dates "Kiss" but it's still not overbearing)...

The piano chord intro, guitar not mixed too much to the front, and a catchy chorus. With the just a hint of wickedness "stop lookin at my like that, unless you're gonna bite that..." "get to your hips" etc.

Previous posters have mentioned "The Morning Papers" - it does have that vibe...

It's a classic Prince pop song... it's a great wedding song... it's a great Sunday morning sunny afternoon drive with your honey song.

i agree but, its my least fave from lotus.

To each their own. It's my least favorite song on the two Prince CDs.

nice song but dumb lyrics (bubble bath???)and has a lame chorus. And too many overdubs.

I like it, but I don't think it reaches its full potential. The sound is nice, and the melody of the verses are lovely. I don't mind the lyrics, Prince has always sang about bubble baths and things like that, never bothered anybody before (when 2 r in love, anyone?)

yet the chorus doesn't really resolve the melody or serve the song well, IMHO. it's a little lame, just the 3 note repeat of the title... I think he could have worked a little more on that one.

I Love the song 4Ever...It's just that Love doesn't want to wait another second...So the song gets under my skin...Like a Timer reaches it's destination and sounds a bell...Love wants to be right now, but when God as the dealerm deals U the "Wait," card...U can't trade it in 4 another. There isn't a draw in the game of life...U play your hand.

Love, love, love that song. I got goosebumps the first time I heard it (on that radio "preview") - and that feeling's never gone away.

I like it, it sticks with me.

Classic pop Prince...all my friends that here Lotus for the first time pick this as there favorite..supremely lush..I'm telling you this trio pack is really his best work in years.
