Another boring, plodding clunker from Prince.

Layered, redundant choruses, lyrics as deft as a fourteen year old honours student and embarrassing balladry. Feel Good, Feel Better is a cycling bore with not an iota of invention or musical worth. 77 Beverly Park is laughably bad and Love Like Jazz is easy listening slop, seemingly dripping over here from his latest proteges colossal failure of a record. 4Ever should be drawn and quartered, Boom is noodling gone ary, The Morning After has a fine enough melody but it's over produced, plastic and pulled down by the lyrics. Colonized Mind is a by the numbers adult contemporary rock song with inane lyrics outdone only perhaps by Wall of Berlin.

The only song worth salvaging from the mediocre heap is 'Dreamer.' It definitely owes more than a nod to Hendrix, but no matter, it's a fantastic rocker and arguably the best job he's done at putting a rock song to record. $ has it's moments but struggles to keep above the filler category. Would have made a good b-side. Had the rest of the album had the same verve as Dreamer, maybe it would end up being memorable for something beyond it's jejune lyrics and lifeless music. The intro and outro tracks may have worked well as bookends if the rest of record if it wasn't shelving a lexicon of irrelevant pop.

Grade: C-
No hard feelings.

Actually, she is pretty fuckin' awesome. I think she's a great artist and says exactly what is on her mind.

We do not have to all agree here and no one should be shitting on her for her review. She said what she thought and didn't comment on people who love this album.

Now, I have been a Prince fan for going on 31 years. Have fammed out, have had BPFS, have "hated" the guy a time or two, but if I say I don't like the albums, why would people have a problem with that?

Well, The first time I listened to planet earth.. I got a false impression and thought it was pretty good.. I woke up the next day and it hit me like a ton of bricks on how bad it actually was..

Having said that, It's evident that Lotus Flower quality wise is a big step up from Planet Awful. He seemed to capture a nice live sound, and the production level seems to be acceptable.

If I had a choice, 4Ever would be taken off the set, It flows much better with Crimson after Morning After.. then going into Colonized Mind.. its a 1 2 3 punch..

4ever really throws me off, it's an attempt to add emotion to a half ballad rock song, and it does nothing but disappoint.

The rest? i'm enjoyin it.

If TRC (his latest real great effort in music) is 10, then Lotus is 8.
I'm actually enjoying it very much. I married the guy in 1980. It's nice when - in a long marriage - you now and then fall in love again. Actually that's what i'm experiencing now. It's fresh, loose and musically rich. Thank u!

From the Lotus. . . Hmm, ok. Let's start now.
Boom That's an ok song
The Morning After Meh! No way man!
4EVER This is so boring!
Colonized Mind That's one of the highlights. Very nice song
Feel Good, Feel Better, Feel Wonderful C'mon! U can do better.
Love Like Jazz boring
77 Beverly Park First part cool, second part very weak
Wall of Berlin Tribute to Jimmy Hendrix? No man!
$ Unecessary
Dreamer Even though this is another Jimmy Hendrix tribute and sort of a copy of "witness 4 the prosecution" it's a good song.
. . . Back to the Lotus just an outro

Overall: Boom, Colonized Mind and Dreamer are three very nice songs. The rest is crap and unimportant bla bla...

After a very weak Planet Earth, and a very weak 3121 he released 3 new cd's with 31 songs. I do like 5 songs out of them all. That's a bad score. I am a Prince fan since 1984. But I guess this strange relationship has come to an end.

Maybe one day he will release a remastered version of the Camille/Dream Factory outtakes. Those songs are all far better than this Music for Music cover lovers.

Welcome 2 the dawn!

I can't remember specifically who played on what but Michael Bland and Sonny T. seem to have been heavily involved. They show the album credits when you stream the album on the website.

I kinda hated 4ever at first, seemed like another in his series of song that sound like they came from bad musical theater summer camp. But listening to the full set last night, I'm enjoying that track now--it's got a richness in the playing that carries it through it's corniness.

Now the Morning After, I'm not so sure about biggrin

Oh you mean send it to those sorry-ass rock contemporary stations that stopped playing Prince in the 80s and are literally going out of business before our very eyes because nobody listens to them anymore!

Neither of these albums will be a hit... no matter the quality of the material. Millions of people listen to those sorry-ass R&B or urban contemporary stations and have bought millions of Prince sorry-ass R&B songs.

I am so sick of how disresptful some of you are

IMO Planet Earth and Lotus Flower couldn't sound more different and its clear (again IMO) that LF has a pulse

PE was so whinny and just totally lacked any punch. I simply don't understand how you could say what you did above

Do you still listen to Prince? What was his last great album IYO. Just from reading your posts and comments I would have thought you would have stopped being a Prince fan long ago. I mean seriously they are so negative. I mean I can be very critical of him also but the difference is I'm still a fan and even though I'm critical of him you can read that in my comments.

Are you a fan? Are you a former fan ... that feels bitter because he made such an impact on you in the 80s and his material from 1990 on just doesn't match? I mean what happened other than him sucking so much now?(again IYO) Why on earth if he is so God awful do you go out of your way to let people know how you feel when its clear you have now moved beyond anything that he is doing now?

Of course your entitled to an opinion.... I just don't know why your toturing yourself the way you are. I mean seriously do you read what you write?

Read the banner at top it says Prince.org - Online fan community. You don't come off as a Prince fan at all though

Not trying to be negative either... actually just an observation

Have u liked anything since Dirty mind? If you are the same boo-bird I have in mind u have been telling us for YEARS how whatever was the current Prince release was mediocre (sp). Yes u could turn in your fan badge if u actually had one. I think u confuse being a fan of a album with being a fan of a performer. Prince certainly doesn't need your type of fandom.
