How does one write a negative review for a Prince album? Without offending the fanbase? Is there a way where one might write a negative review and those that admire Prince would say, "Oh, I understand where that person's coming from. While I may personally disagree with them based on my fanaticism, I respect their opinion."

Maybe the critic is not getting paid enough to put out a good review or they are in a bad mood? Edmonton, AB - |

I doubt that's possible. There are always negative reviews of Prince records when he releases great stuff like TRC. His worst outputs get rare reviews like Musicology for instance. That's quite incredible! But come one, most critics, journalists, and people in general hate Prince in the first place. So don't complain, you've got plenty of negative stuff to read about P out there; [Edited 3/20/09 14:30pm]

I doubt that's possible. Easy ...you just need to be able to back up what you say.... So my question to you is how would you back up your review.....i'll give you a few days...months to think about it.... Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! So they are writing a negative review because they aren't getting paid enough or they're in a bad mood? It can't possibly be because of sub par material?

so sad "reviews" still have any substance on the bathroom scale. a description of the music ,at best, is what should be conveyed

1. Do not ever...ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever...post it on the Org or any other Prince "related" site.

It is possible to write a negative review, kindly stating reasons for disliking the material. A form of criticism can be voiced without sarcasm and the writer can also mention their typical musical tastes...so the reader knows where they are coming from. Last Night, I spent another lonely Christmas...Darlin' Darlin' U shoulda been there.~Prince.

I doubt that's possible. it depends on which segment of the fanbase you're referring to. i'm assuming you're talking about the fams/sheep that are a large contingent here on the Org. for them, any negative statement against their almighty purple savior is punishable by anything they can think of. apparently up to and including posting pictures of the reviewer and cracking jokes about his physical appearance. yes, it's THAT sad. http://www.myspace.com/butterscotchpimp

Right. How dare I support Prince. How dare sites like Housequake, Uptown and The Prince Family support Prince. Or maybe better, how dare fans support Prince in any way other than what he sees fit. All of that stuff I posted on my website se7en years ago? How much of it has been released, proving what Prince claimed? That's right. Not one song. None of it ever will be released. And if it is, Prince fans (like myself) are the type that support him with their wallets. Anyways, your argument is tired. Answer the question.

Look how he explained "While I may personally disagree with them based on my fanaticism" There's the "fanatacism" word which is disrepectful and shows his bias already and again per usual. He is another in the dime a dozen barrell. Spoort for Prince? Please. Some sits never showed any suppoert including his. What they showed was they used their forum to complain about the dude and what he did to not fullfill THEIR expectations and whatnot lol. Support/body massager...please! Why these folks continue to stay on prince sites , especially when new material and activities happen, just to slighly and not so slighly do what they do is quite telling.

If you are writing a review, whether or not you offend is not generally a worry.

Rolling Stone blasted Parade and was lukewarm on SOTT. For the most part, mainstream critics do not understand his peculiar brand of eclectic genius until after the fact.

Even a well written review that is unbias, respectful and has backup/background for whatever the reviewer finds unfavorable will be panned by those of differing opinion and/or fervor. ![]() you have to have a thick skin to write reviews, because inevitably you're going to piss someone off, no matter how kind you think you were. also, you have to REALLY know your stuff, because if you pan an album/book/movie/etc. and you don't know a lot about the artist or the genre, people will rake you over the coals (and rightfully so).

it boils down to nothing more than this
I trips me the fuck out to see the "veterans" of this site rear their heads when a new release is on the way just to post catty bullshit. At this point in his career, I've come to understand that Prince will never be able to cater to his entire fanbase mainly because of his age and the diverse tastes of music of his fans. Despite some of the terrible music that he's released in recent years, and the continuous erratic behavior (which shouldn't even phase yall anymore), I still think Prince is held to some of the most unfair standards than any other artist of his caliber and age... particularly by his fans. Mofos, particularly the "vets", should stop acting like victims who can't escape their abusers... or jilted ex lovers who go out of their way to say negative shit about the one who broke their heart. It's nothing more than mere entertainment. Accept shit for what it is or move the fuck on... DAYUMM!!!!! You know I was just making conversation, I wasn't trying to school you. No need to be nasty about it. © ernestsewell
