3 chains o gold

Hi does anyone understand the meaning behind the 3 chains o gold song?

It sounds like symbol is singing out a someone spliting up with a loved one and that person's soul is not going to be saved. What is the significance of the 3 chains? i was thinking it meant the Holy Trinity, as in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit? could be wrong?

anyone got any ideas?

When Prince says that the "3 Chains of Gold," are the nucleus of his soul...I believe this can be DNA strand related as well as the concept of a braid being unbreakable.

A relationship between "The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit." will shine 4ever.

it's from the stupid storyline that got cut from the album when the segues were trimmed down and replaced with an additional song.

like most of prince's songs he is singing to himself. it's a conversation between different aspects of his personality. prince is telling prince that "you will go before me." the three chains represent some combination of music, religion and sex.

To me it, this song, jughead and others symbolized in a crystal clear form that he had forever lost the good judgement of what constitutes a really stupid song.

I liked it when i was crazy better

JW's don't believe in God having multiple "personas". They believe in one God, Jehovah, who created Jesus. So I'm guessing that the Father, Son, Holy Spirit thing is out for an explanation of the three chains?
