NO

there won't be anything except the 3 new albums on there and a lot of
streaming video files of concert footage.

as the year advances we might see some more exclusive downloads like
a few mp3 files and i'm guessing it will be at least4 or 5 months in
until *perhaps* we will see some unreleased tracks. maybe a few and
maybe even an entire cd's worth.

but i would NOT hold my breath for numerous cd's full of outtakes on
that site. and also, unreleased material does not constitute only an
array of those prized 1982-1987 outtakes. unreleased could mean some
cd's full of songs recorded between 1998 and 2004, for instance.

lastly, no one should simply expect from a small quote in an article
about people prepping some unreleased material, that it will be there
on the site when it opens up and that it will come for "free" with
the $ 77,- subscribtion charge.

when the site opens there will be nothing but lots of graphics, those
3 new albums, lots of video footage and perhaps a concert stream or
two of either individual songs or (unlikely) an entire show from the
past.

with the membership will come perks like pre-sale tickets, a retail
store with candles, perfume and ear wraps and the well known weird
blog entries about spiritual stuff.

all the rest is just fantasy. prince has never released any of his
treasured outtake material except for a little bit on crystal ball,
and about 2 or 3 things on the npgmc. like "splash" or a rehearsal
version of "the rebirth of the flesh".

why anyone would think that prince would, for 77 dollars, just put
10 albums worth of unreleased prime era music on his site is just
incromprehensible. we're talking about the same dude here, right?

they're dangling carrots, once again. i would be happy with just a
lot of new music. outtake release is a dream and it's kind of sad
that they would stoop to using it as a marketing ploy when it's all
still very much unsure wether anything of that material will ever
be released.

just look at what that little line has caused here on the org lol
there are going to be so many pissed off people come march 24th and
for no other reason that misleading information that was not even
misleading to begin with but which was butchered into something
beyond recognition by us, lol.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Anxiety

NPGMC teased us with the possibility of purple rain outtakes, "roadhouse garden" and the possibility of prince doing "rare fan favorites" in vegas. none of these things happened. now we're getting teased with ten never-before heard albums. of course i would LOVE it if he followed through on this, but i've been well trained not to expect anything, especially if prince's folks dangle it in front of my face like a carrot.

really, do not bet against this happening. The fact that 'All my Dreams' is still up on the w&l interview site kinda sends a clear message. I think this will be an amazing year.

Based on history, I think this year will be another disappointment and everyone will complain. I will be shocked if we get anything other than the 3 albums and some videos which for the most part are worthless.

The best thing is we will all pay 77 dollars for 3 albums, pay 12 bucks for the physical albums, then he will close lotus flower and advance to the next project. We won't even get a C-Note as an F U like the last time.

It does not. Either Prince's people haven't seen it, or Imeem hasn't responded to their legal threats yet, that's all.

Really, really, really don't expect this.

Would obviously be amazing if it comes to pass but it was only something mentioned in passing by the designer.

It hasn't been promised that they will be available for download.

Me too - as said before - whilst the outtakes remain unreleased, his trump card has not been played - and that trump card (or dangling carrot) is just a hype tool - nothing more. Am happy to be proved wrong

why is this thread being dismissed? The newsweek story did say in reference to the web site

He (Clay) also claims a colleague has organized 10 albums of old Prince music never released in any form.

The album listing from the OP likely isn't right. "The Dawn" became "The Truth" and the track "the last december" has been released, but it certainly is reasonable to expect more music for $77 than just the 3 albums that can be bought for $12 at target. Perhaps not for download, but certainly to listen to.

well, in prince's defense, it WAS his web designer saying this to newsweek. there's been no "official" mention of these 10 albums by prince or by any official press release. it could very well be a case of the web designer mentioning something he shouldn't have, or maybe it was a well planted morsel to get people salivating, who knows.

i'm sure the idea was tossed around.. but that is just the thing.. prince is an idea kindof guy.. but it was never really meant to take his ideas to heart.

there's a difference between tossing around ideas and having already catalogued and organized the music, which suggest it's also been mastered and digitized. Perhaps it doesn't appear on day 1, but I certainly think it would appear at some point. Again there has to be more material to the site than just the contents of CDs that can be purchased in a store for $12.

I think the price of those CDs is so low to help lure more people to the site where the real money is.

The vault songs get so much hype … the reality is most of us have heard 100’s of unreleased bootlegs already, so we know what we would be getting. The only plus point would be the sound quality being perfect.

The Prince hype of “the best Revolution songs have not been released” is almost guaranteed as total nonsense …. There is no way that Prince is sitting on better songs than ‘Raspberry Beret’ …. If he had something that great in the vault already why would we have to be tortured with albums like Planet Earth.

The idea of all these amazing outtakes that we have never heard is exciting …. But the reality is I think we have heard most of it already…. And what we have not heard is probably quite interesting… but that’s about it. The few surprises on the Crystal Ball album did not exactly blow people away. (‘Poom Poom’ anyone?)

Prince’s career has been built on the hype that he is a workaholic musical genius with 1000’s of songs already recorded …. For me he’s a talented dude, but the last 15+ years musical output has been poor to even embarrassingly bad at times which really proves that hype has played a key role in his career. That 5 year period in the mid to late 1980’s he was really something special …. But since then he has not really come up with anything that would warrant the title ‘MUSICAL GENIUS’.

I agree with almost all of this...but there have been some shreds of life...some REALLY great songs since that period...the Gold Experience has some great songs on it...but some of the best were left off of it for some unknown reason.... The symbol album had some really good stuff... I'd say in the past 5 years or so though..that there has been nothing at all that has impressed me in the least...we all come back because we all hope that maybe...just maybe this time...this album will be the one...I'll be there...
