Annastesia on ONA Live...Let's discuss!

I think this is my favorite on the album, aside from the preaching at the end. There was one comment, however, that I strongly agree with. It's when he says it's time to start celebrating similarities than diversity. So true, so true...

Wonderful, strong song, I agree...beautifully haunting synth chords at the very end as well...

i have to agree...his performances of anna stesia haven't been that spirited since the lovesexy shows...i don't think it's preachy at all, but then again, i agree with exactly what he's saying.

Oh, yes I was... 8) It was exactly how it sounds on the CD, so it just consumed me all over again to hear it at the end of disc 2...

What exactly did he say?? I read different quotations:

'We have to overcome our similarities'

or

'We have to celebrate our similarities'?

I like the first version very much.

Anyone else notice that he pronounces it "Annast A sia" instead of "Annast E sia" on this cut? What's up with that?

I was really disappointed that Prince didn't perform
Anna Stesia at the Houston concert. I figured it
would be included in the box set, but really wasn't
paying attention to the song list when I first played
ONA Live. When it got to the end of disc 2 and I heard
the first note, my heart jumped about five feet. That
performance shows, to me, that this song's message has
eclipsed its writer. Anna Stesia is truly one of the
few Prince songs that makes me slow down and go 'whoa'.

I don't know what possessed Prince to pull this song
from the Houston song list, but I am so glad he put it
back in!

About no AnnaStesia at the Houston show, someone who was there told me alot of people were taking pictures during the show. I don't really know if this was why he cut it short, but that does tend to piss him off.

I agree its a wonderful song. Love is God, God is Love.
Some of the things I agree with and others I don't. When he mentions the King James Version. I Disagree with that. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I did, when I first heard it I said hold up he don't pronouce it like that on the Lovesexy LP. It probably has to do with some sort of Truth he found out.

Just curious, but what about this song is so special. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good song, but I hear people say things like "this song changed my life", etc. and I just don't understand.

Could people please explain it?

This song had MUCH more bite and power to it live during the Lovesexy tour (and, of course, on record). This version he's doing now for the ONA tour with the Craig Mack "Flava In Yo Ear" sample towards the end gives it too much of a hip-hop, rough edge to it that totally fucks the groove up for me! sad

Man, I remember that summer of 88.

Look, with out great detail, I was a teenager who couldn't accept he was gay. I was constantly fighting with my mother and brother. My life seemed so dark and life no longer held meaning. Mistress Death was my best friend.

Then Lovesexy was released. I dug it. I adored Glam Slam. Yet, it was Anna Stesia that shattered that box of low esteem. The loneliness and the sorrow and the... it touched me so deeply. As the choir began to sing "Love is God and God is Love" I understood something deep within. I don't know what was awakened but I'm here today, and those who doubted me are no longer in my life.

Anna Stesia is one of the few songs I've ever heard that truly felt it was meant for me.

It depended on the nights setlist. first concert in rotterdam he didn't play it, the second he did: different setlist.
Anna Stesia is one of the songs that made me realise why I love Prince music.

It's a good song, but it felt so anticlimactic to me as the final song of the night on the ONA tour. Maybe its the tempo or something, I just couldnt quite put my finger on it.

What could possibly be anticlimactic about
meeting on a HIGHER LEVEL and LOVING
