Never b Another Like Me is awful bilge. Prince trying desperately to mask inadequate lyrics and insecurity on his part with Linn Drum and an audience's nostalgic empathy.

of songs either but there's something about that song, especially when it's playing loud in my car that makes me love it very much. the way it pounds, that beat, there's something really strong in that. tho by all normal means it's the kind of npgmc-ish song i would normally not like too much something about this song makes me love it and turn it up all the way every single time. I agree with you. I know it's very "by-the-numbers" Prince, but for whatever reason, I'm still enjoying it more than most people seem to be. You're right about listening to it in the car, also. (Maybe that's why he's been previewing it for reporters in his car?)

perhaps 'by the numbers' Prince is what he wanted show us before he releases the rest of the album. I hope so, this is too generic for fun. "words are like shoes, they're just something you stand on."

I thought this was a Mary J. Bilge thread I'm the one sent to kiss you out the mood you've slipped into.

Yup. Back to the Emancipation/Rave/NPGMC/Musicology/3121 sound.

I like it but it does give me an odd familiarity of something I've heard before but having trouble trying to locate the exact origin. And in that the song keeps me interested...I keep saying where did I hear this b4....Quite eerie.

In some ways I am hearing "The Stick" or some other early recording by The Time in it. Not saying it's of that caliber, I can sort of hear it. The lyrics, in the verses at least, are practically word for word "Movie Star" repeated.

I love it especially the last couple of minutes, but I liked alot of NPGMC stuff like Judas Smile, Silicon, Sex Me Sex Me Not, Magnificent, Jukebox With A heartbeat and 2045 Radical man.

Yeah, this track is the weakest thing in a while. Totally reminds me of why I lost interest in Prince for many years. Simply bizarre that this should be one of the tracks 'put out there' to generate a buzz. the lyrics are surprisingly lame. kind of reinforces the impression i got from the '21 nights' book of prince actually being quite boring I'm testing postive 4 the funk

It's like a weird mix of "the good life" and "we can funk" damn it! I had a great quote from george washington but it doesn't fit here.

This is the song I like the least out of all the new songs I have heard.

(Maybe that's why he's been previewing it for reporters in his car?) The kind of song you don´t want your neighbors to hear so you play it in your car because it is a bit awful when it comes to the lyrics. But, as IstenSzek said, there´s something about it that a lot of people, including myself, like. Even though it is really not one of his strongest songs.

Guess we´re all just too happy to hear a little bit of that Linn drum and synth sound again. We all seem to like it purely for nostalgic reasons and go bananas over the slightes hint of that good old glorious Minneapolis Funk sound.

i don't mind it. i don't think it's meant to be his creative comeback, but it's a fun groove for what it is.

It's like a weird mix of "the good life" and "we can funk" Funny is I like both of those songs but I'm not to crazy about NBALM. I do like the last few minutes (outro jam) and I like the instrumental edit. I hope and pray this song doesn't represent MPLSound as I am really looking forward to the "trippy experimental Pop songs" it is promising. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Oh please, this song is the bomb, PERIOD! I could care less if he sounds like he's repeating himself or not, this song is great. It's fun, it's funny and it's funky. The last almost 2 mins are just kickass too! Plus this is a another hot P song that I can dance too. Me and my best friend were dancing out butts off to this jam a couple of weeks ago on the WBAI special. I respect the opposing comments but I don't agree with any of you. I love this song and I can't wait for MPLSOUND to drop. Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. Last time I checked, Prince isn't dead yet.

It's like a weird mix of "the good life" and "we can funk" it not nearly as good as those 2!. Clean your ears missy!.

it is truly awful, Lotus flower is already sounding amazing BUT this is a damn poor advert for the MPLS. I was very surprised at how lazy and totally uninspired this track was compared to the Lotus Floer songs. Lets just hope that this is the worst cut and the rest has the groove firmly locked back in and the true days of the MPLS Sound are back like the 1999 album and all those classic funk B-Sides.

The lyrics are cringe-worthy yet forgettable (thank god). The beat is OK but not near strong enough to make up for that. His remakes are much better than his original stuff. LOVE the crimson&clover/wild thing mash-up

I think the fact that many old school Prince fans thought that this was a fake track by some wannabe Prince fan is reason enough to question its quality. But, as I said, it is pretty listenable....in a car.

I do like this song...and I don't really get the hate for it. The only thing that bothers me about it (though very little) is the Woooo at the beginning. It's sort of like he's thinking..."I need to evoke the Revolution sound...Oh here I'll just add this Wooooo". I am also tired of the self Grandstanding Lyric that he seems to be stuck on.

wouldn't go quite as far as 'awful bilge', but, yes, 4 me personally it don't set the heart racing, especially when released 2 us at the same time as colonized mind & crimson and clover. its a C minus could do better, or "why make this when u could have spent your time finishing 'roadhouse garden' ?"
