It was written for a movie called, I'll Do Anything, starring Nick Nolte. It was originally intended as a musical but the idea for that was dropped when test screenings weren't well received. The fil was released in 1994.

And now for a cup of tea.

it would probably fit in best on the "the vault..old friends 4 sale"
album released in 1999 since half the songs on that album came from
the same sessions.

in fact, the long version of "she spoke 2 me", the other 'new' song
on the girl6 soundtrack is also on that album.

always liked this song, it's got a sweet melody. kind of wish it'd
been included on the vault anyway since it really does belong with
those songs imo.

oh but to answer your question, iirc all the songs from that session
were recorded in late 1992 for possible includion on the soundtrack
for the film I'll Do Anything Soundtrack. no songs were used in the
end and the tracks were put in the vault.

until warners released that "Vault" album with old prince material
in 1999, which is when some of the songs resurfaced. and fcuz this
song was released a few years before that on the girl6 soundtrack.

Chaka Khan also did a cover of the song.
It appears on her 1998 album Come 2 My House
I believe Prince does background vocals

It was also featured in the Down in the Delta movie soundtrack.

i love the live performance she and Prince did. i just love chaka's stage presence and voice and that big ass hair. she and Prince make pretty good harmony. the song is sweet but also kind of sad. sounds like there is regret in the lyrics. confused

Beautiful song. It's so sad and sweet all at the same time. Chaka's version is just as good. Good stuff indeed.

Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. Last time I checked, Prince isn't dead yet.
