LMAO - Getting Kids to Like Prince

I got my nephew, who is 10 (i'm 18), to like Prince's music. He got a PSP for Christmas and so I put some P music onto it. Just a few minutes ago, he comes into my room listening to When Doves Cry and we started dancing to it together. Then Musicology came on and he says "This song's got a lot of UGH in it!"
falloff
I just thought it was funny that he would like Prince so much when practically no one his age knows who Prince is. lol

Does anyone else have stories about kids they've managed to convert into Prince fams?

if you consider a 15 year old (me) a Kid. Then yes smile but i have always liked other music than others in my age group. James brown, al green, george benson etc etc. In fact i do have a story with my 6 year old brother razz Last summer i was watching the video of prince at the brit awards 06, it went from Te Amo Corazon to fury and he kept pushing me telling me what it was (was playing on iPhone ^^) so i plugged the earphones in his ears and played fury for him. He listened to it for close to 2 hours over and over again. Then further on in the past weeks a couple of times. On christmas day im on the Org and i scroll down to the Gallery and he sees a picture and shouts out loud Heeeey that's PRINCE! Im like how do you remember? He actually said " cause his music is the best" that cracked me up. So thats my story now he always wants to listen to him smile

lol I think I'm determined to get younger people to like P's stuff. It would be terrible if people stopped listening almost completely; I don't know anyone my age [personally] who listens to him.

raspberry corvette is a cute mistake ^_^

Why try and make them like the music - just let them appreciate it for what it is and they will come around. My 10yo and 8yo listen all the time and love Prince but their mother is not a fan. Oh well, 3 v 1 and the Prince compilation CD's are in the car when we go for a trip...

Both of my kids love Prince...they had no choice as they were listening to his music even while in my womb... biggrin . My daughter was almost born at his concert back in 88(The LOVESEXY TOUR) and my son was born on his birthday. My daughter is now 20 and I took her to the Musicology tour show, we had floor seats (10th row), she had the best time and stood up dancing for the entire show right along with me..seeing him live changed her opinion about him entirely and now she loves him even more. My son(age 13) knows all the music that I allow him to hear whenever he is in the car with me, he loves all of it and knows some of the lyrics, he'll even ask for paticular songs, I really don't know which is his favorite as he loves so many different ones, from the old school to the newer stuff....by the way, my son is Autistic (high function) and loves so many different styles of music and is a Prince fan and I plan to take him to see Prince someday if he ever comes back to Houston rainbow

I try to get my 3 year old nephew to like Prince music and get to know him, lol. He likes Get on The Boat and we dance together to that. He also likes Fury and The Word. Gotta introduce earlier stuff to him.

I'm always putting different pictures in front of him and asking him who it is. It used to be "Pince", then "Pwince", not he's finally got it right with "Prince." biggrin

My youngest son were watching the Song Of The Heart(Happy Feet).
We both got a kick out of an animated penguin having so much funk in him.
And great song by the way with a beautiful message.

I honestly don't think you can convince your kids to like the same music as their parents. It would mean so much more to the artist if the kids listened to it and choose for themselves whether they like it or not.Which all kids do that anyway.

I sort of got my cousin into Prince for a hot minute. He likes "Girls and Boys" mainly for the chorus part. He says it's strangely catchy. On a side note, we have an inside joke about Morris Day's "Fishnet".

lol I wish I could find the video of the two of us singing it like we had lost our minds...

When musicology came out i was like 13 and i didnt appreciate it anywhere near as much as i like the song now...never even heard purple rain pr when doves cry till i got a bit older and was able to appreciate it..anyway Ive learnt you gotta let kids and people in general be in that frame of mind to listen to and like Prince.

My daughter was listening to Prince in th womb and hasn't really stopped... it is starting to slow down, butit has meant that she has the ability to appreciate all sorts of music... she loves James Brown, Jimi Hendrix and textx or calls me whenever she hears P playing in a shop or cafe!!

I don't mind if she opts not to listen to Prince now, she knows what good, funky music and usually turns to P at some point in the week.

She came to the London o2 gigs with us and loved every minute of it... standing on the chair singing at he top of her voice. She has only just turned 12 and is quite proud that she knows who P is and what his music is like. It sgood to be a bit different from your friends and get the upper hand every now and again!!
