Prince's Vocal Range

Does anyone know Prince's full vocal range? What are the highest and lowest notes that he's recorded vocally? He's a tenor, right?

I don't know his vocal range but after listenin to some of his songs, especially the ballads (where he does the background vocals and adlibs), then I'd have to say, yes, he is a tenor...and falsetto and soprano and alto and baritone lol there may be more I can't even name too
I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

I sing tenor, it was the first tone I did effortlessly and I know of other females that can do it. A professional vocal teacher (and others) have said that it'll mess up my ability to sing in the future...but oh how I love it. It's really a male part and it rings out better when men do it.

Ahh tenor... lol

I'm not sure.

His voice is pretty good. Not terific, but pretty good.
Though in the last 10 years or so, it's started to sound dreadful live. Like he doesn't really put any effort into it.

But in the studio, he seems to have a very wide vocal range. Between Barry White low to dolphin squealing high.

No, he's not a tenor. I would say he's a baritone.

His lowest note is usually an E. There are some rare exceptions (on record) where he's even reached an Eb.

As for the high end, he can usually hit a G with his regular ("chest") voice. Sometimes he's managed to push it up to an A, or even Bb. But that's very rare.

His falsetto is something completely different. I'm not entirely sure here, but if I remember correctly, the highest I've heard him go is a C (two octaves above "middle C").

(I'm not counting that little sound he makes on "God", that's hardly a deliberate pitch)

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
