Prince fans need to learn a few lessons from Backstreet Boys fans

Let me repeat myself for a second:

Seriously, some of you need to come hang out with Backstreet Boys fans for a couple days, and learn how it's done. No fandom should ever take itself or its heroes too seriously. Being a boyband fan, you figure that shit out right away. Because God knows there's plenty to make fun of there.

It's not as prevalent now, but back in the day there was this BSB phenom known as humour sites. What they were was websites, run by loyal fans, devoted to royally taking the piss out of the Boys and their crazy-ass fans. It was great. Every fandom should learn to see itself with the humour it deserves. Because honestly, the act of being a loyal fan of someone you'll never know is pretty ludicrous to begin with, no matter who it is. I really feel the Prince fandom could benefit from a more Backstreet-fan sort of attitude. It'd be a lot healthier, for one thing, and we'd see a lot less online marriage proposals, for another.

Believe it or not, I'm dead serious. Boybands are famous for having some nutsack-insane fans, it's true. But what I've seen in the BSB fandom pales in comparison to some of the more, er, enthusiastic among us in the Prince fandom. Some of you are putting 12 year old girls to shame in your slavish devotion and delusions of Princely love.

So lighten up, everyone. And have fun. Prince is a wonderfully talented musician, and one helluva performer t'boot. But he's not perfect. And it really is okay to say that.

If you proposed to the Backstreet Boys, statistically you'd have a higher chance of getting a "yes".

I'm afraid he's just too good for me. I'm a mere mortal after all -how could I ever measure up to that Divine being?

I'd say:

Jordan, you're my favourite, will you marry me?

Jonathan, you're my second favourite, if Jordan says no, how about you and me....? batting eyes

Joey, I had a budgie called Joey, I'm sure I could love you just as much! Let's do it! nod

Donnie, will you be my husband, even if it's just so you could explain the end of Planet of the Apes. confused

Dannie, even though I forget what you look like, you and I are destined for each other. :bendedknee:

Bound to get at least one yes in that lot. woot!

Not by much actually, 3 of the original 5 have got wimmins already.

But the other two? Hell, why not? Folk on here are proposing to Prince. But only if I get both, dammit. I'm greedy like that. razz

I have a friend who used to do the groupie thing with all sorts of performers. All "ick" factor aside, according to her the youngest two Backstreet Boys are a package deal, if you get my drift. You don't get one without the other. lurking

I think people are afraid of making a humor-based Prince website, because they think they'll get sued.

Lord knows it's not because of a lack of material to work with lol

when an artist takes themselves as seriously as Prince does, its not surprising a lot of his fans do too.

the main difference between BSB and Prince, is Prince is a genious, who probably deserves his talent to be respected, but i understand why a lot of people dont respect him as a person.

catch-22.

But what about before the days of websherriff? What about site disclaimers? I'm sure SNL doesn't have to check in with Prince's minders when they want to poke fun at him.

The fact that Prince takes himself so damned seriously just makes him deserve to be laughed at even more IMO. Relative musical talent or stage charisma isn't what's at issue here, so I find it a little odd that you brought it up.

The facts are that the Prince fandom, on the whole, takes itself way too seriously and allows the crazies not just to exist on the fringes, but in some cases flourish.

So do you think it's healthy that some Prince fans are fawning over his lil purple ass like he's the Second Coming?

Keep in mind that I'm asserting that Backstreet fans are more moderate, even with the knowledge that their tour bus almost got flipped by a horde of 15 year old girls in Rio. With them in it. lol

It seems that none knows the artist formerly known as Prince lately, maybe it´s wrong site?
