'The Line' appreciation

Hello guys, I'm new to this forum. Just wanna say a big hello to all fellow Prince fans smile

Aight back to the topic, I am seriously addicted to this song. I can't stop listening to it ATM. What y'all think of it?

It is so far ahead of it's time. I'm just curious to know if it ever was released commercially?

No, it was never released commercially. The completed song isn't circulating
on any bootlegs either, as the version that's 'out there' is barely even half-
finished and only features the basic tracks.

eek didn't know that. i wonder what he was thinking of adding to it cool. it sounds awesome enough though, to me, as it is music. very funky and bare bones, very reminiscent of the time love. greatest part of any song ever right here:

"People, people, I got a brand new dance {x2}
Ain't talkin' 'bout Housequake! No!
Ain't talkin' 'bout Shake 'N' Bake! No!
Ain't talkin' 'bout Rice-O-Roni! No!
I'm talkin' 'bout Macaroni? No!
Lord have mercy

Boni? (What?)
On the 2 (Yeah!)
What we gonna do? (Kangaroo!)
Say it! (Kangaroo!)
Come on
Boni? (What?)
On the 2 (Yeah!)
What U wanna do? (Kangaroo!)
Do the do (Do the do!)"

lol dancing jig

put it where it feel good guitar

I love the false-fade, and the gorgeous vocals from Bonnie Boyer at the end with the church organ.

I was thinking of starting a thread on The Line myself but I´m glad you did.

My expert and considered opinion is that this track is the shit.

thanx alot Tame smile it's great to be here on a forum where people love prince as much as i do. smile

For anybody who does'nt have this song, you can get it from his 'The Work, vol1.2,3 & 4 smile it's available on the net. Just type Prince Discography Part 2.

I think the fact that this wasn't released just shows the quality of music this genius possesses in his vault. Some of his unreleased material on the Work album is better than the stuff thats out today.

'The Line' is a brilliant track, it definately should've made the cut on Lovesexy, or at least a b-side.

I'd wager the final version sounds cluttered and over-produced, because the circulating version is PERFECT, imo.

I'm pretty sure I remember the lyrics above from a SOTT rehearsal...

The Line is an outstanding song. Really love it.

Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

Memory serves you wrong, The Line is a studio recording to which Prince intended to add more parts to but he liked it less and less as he kept adding more and more to it. in the end he just lost intesrest in it and put it in the vault
