Teeters on the edge of self-parody with it's OTT gaudy Gold Experience-esque sound, but manages just quite not to fall off.

Emancipation - disc 2 One of the few I really like on there, there's a cool guitar solo buried in there as well

Me too! Heartfelt and hard hitting. Great song Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. Last time I checked, Prince isn't dead yet.

LOVE this song and LOVE this particular disc from Emancipation. Just wanted to point out also, this album is aging well imo. I was never a huge fan of it when it came out...but I still listen to it on reg basis and like it more and more the older it gets.

exactly! it was recorded with the Gold new power generation tho so that's probably why it feels so much like an outtake from that era. altho it's pretty obvious why it wouldn't have been up for inclusion on the gold experience since it's a sugar coated candy unicorn of a song. i was born with the wrong sign, in the wrong house, with the wrong ascendancy

Would've fit perfect alongside The Most Beautiful Girl In the World. Or is that too much syrupy sweet schmaltz for one album? Well, obviously not because Emancipation was full of it. Albeit good schmaltz. [Edited 7/21/08 14:05pm]

Albeit good schmaltz. i think so. the most beautiful girl was about as much schmalz as gold could handle without being dragged down too much. on a good day i can still listen to both songs but they always fail to make any kind of impression on me except for wanting to press skip i was born with the wrong sign, in the wrong house, with the wrong ascendancy

This is one of the reasons why it's so hard for me to dismiss 90s Prince. His music back then was about excesses. However, these are what make the songs so memorable, flawed as they are. Like the films of Von Sternberg and Fassbinder, Prince's genius shines through despite blatant attempts at self-indulgence.
