Do you only like Prince when he has a hit record?

Hi Having been reading the Is Prince past his prime? and the 90's threads - I'm
wondering if some people/fans only like Prince when he has a massive worldwide hit?
Does anybody like him just for the interesting musical ride he gives us whether hits or not like I do? I would rather have this than have him become like Madonna using hip producers to get hit after hit, but not really producing anything really challenging or memorable (IMO!). Any opinions?

as long as he treats his new projects like they're hit records - whether they really are or not - that's all that's important to me.

If prince would have faded away from world recognition after, "I Wanna be Your Lover," I would have crept around the world...looking for the piano bar his tip jar was sitting on...or, studying pouty guitar players sitting on street corners. cool

???? What kind of fans would those be? No!! I love finding new things, which I do all the time, there's so much to discover about him and so much of his music, I think he's endlessly fascinating...

No, no matter if it a hit or not, in fact I love many songs that they weren´t
I consider Prince is the most great composer, performer alive in this world whatever if he is recognized duly or not by "industry of comercial music"

Well I sometimes wonder when Im on the Org what types of Prince fans there are. Some people seem desperate for him to prove himself by having a 'hit'. I don't really care if he does or not. Some 'fans' are obsessed with his 80's period and do not imo seem to even give his new music a chance. I'm just interested in how he's developing or changing his music.

I cant stand those so-called fans who sign of for fansites when he has a hit album or tour and then they vanish when hes not doing anything at the moment or they dont like what hes doing.I love Prince no matter if his music is considered a "hit" or not cool

I would say that anyone who took record sales as an indication of whether they liked an artist or not, is not a true music fan (of that artist at least).

I couldn't give a fig if P had a hit record yesterday or a year ago. The music an artist makes is what it is all about. If you love music, there is no condition on it.

I like him better when he doesn't. It's easier to get good seats at a concert. lol

The media has spent decades portraying the GOP as heartless tightwads; now we're supposed to believe they were the ones urging Fannie and Freddie to give a half-million mortgage to cousin Louie who you wouldn't loan $200 to.

LOL
I became a fan in 1979. I have never cared whether he had a hit or not, just that he kept turning out music. The rest is for other people to worry about.
No one here can seriously be a fan if you only want to celebrate hit records.
Go be a Madonna fan already if that's all you care about.

I've always liked some of Prince's music and most of the time I didn't even know it was him, I just liked the song. I've also found out (on here) that some of other people's music I liked was actually done in-part by Prince. I've only been actually paying attention to him and the bigger picture since Musicology. I know so very little about him and his music and have really only heard his most popular stuff. Well, since Musicology I buy his CD's and listen to all of the songs. I don't care for some of it though I try to get something from it. Prince seems to take his music so seriously and if your lucky enough to see him perform live (now that he has clothes on lol a bit distracting from the music I'm sure lol ) It's so the bomb!!! The Musicology tour sorta changed me in a very cool way. Since then.... oh yeah..... I'm listening!!!
