I don't know when it was recorded, however, the version I have, I really like...I know that the lyrics are on the teenage sex curiosity level..and those could easily be changed...because the song is really good... It's a cover or Cookie Jar is a cover! I never gave a fuck about unreleased stuff. It goes against Prince's wishes and I respect him!

Love the song. I don't know when it was recorded. I remember Prince mentioning it during a Rolling Stone interview. Juizy Boyz®

In the pre-release publicity campaign for the D&P album Anthony Kiedis of Red hot chilli peppers was interviewed about being invited by Prince to hear a rough mix of the album. Kiedis raved about the album in general and "Schoolyard" in particular. It was very disappointing when the album was released without it. To my understanding it was cut at the last moment because of the marijuana reference. Just imagine D&P minus jughead and including "schoolyard". Damn...what a missed opportunity. | |

i've thought the same thing countless times. diamonds and pearls could have used a few more non-toni songs lol. plus, the version circulating is not the best sound quality so if it'd been on the cd it would have sounded a lot better still. instead of "push" i'd have also rather had "player" on the album. but hey, that's just a wishing game lol. but this is another reason why another, extensive prince outtakes set would be very welcome. "schoolyard" would be a great song to include. i'm chanting as we speak darling
