people usually take it the other way around. it's more like:

"but you like bowie and talking heads and sonic youth! how can you be a PRINCE fan?!?"

at this point in my life i just ignore people who can't see beyond a limited, labelized, either/or view of the world. if they can't wrap their minds around the fact that i like what i like and demographics be damned, then the problem's not mine to fix.

Now it's Dolly Parton, Patsy cline, Tom Waits, Alice Cooper, Timbaland, Prince, Beatsie Boys, Bowie, expermental jazz, dave graney, k.d. lang etc that gets me into trouble... its isn't the artists themselves, just the unpredicatability of what is coming next
