Shockadelica - enters #8 on the Norwegian charts Incredibly enough the 81-track/5CD Prince-tribute-boxset was the highest entry on this weeks Norwegian official albumcharts.

Chris, all I can say is well done. I have nothing but praise for this project. I truly think it's the best thing to happen to Prince fans is a long time. Outside of actually seeing the man in concert this has been the most refreshing experience for me as a fan. Because these covers are done by Norway's best recording artists almost all of these interpretations are as sincere, heartfelt and uniquely invisioned as the originals. I've been bragging about this album to everyone I know and feel privileged to have a copy.

Is it that you appreciate the "product" (music) more than the rights and wishes of the "artist" that created it? It just seems that there is such confusion and probably understandably so that something as personal as the creation of music, that in someway or another gets mass produced, becomes the ownership of all who get it.....and all the hard work to make this "independent" compilation was truly created by Prince himself or it would not exist.....

Madison88, I'm curious... why is it okay for Prince to sing a cover of Radiohead's "Creep" (with tons of lyrical changes) at Coachella, yet somehow the artists on this tribute compilation are in the wrong for covering his songs (withOUT lyrical changes)? It's a known fact that Prince never asked Radiohead if it was okay for him to sing one of their best-known songs as an encore at Coachella ... and in fact, the members of Radiohead, who own all copyrights to "Creep," couldn't even go to YouTube and watch him perform their song once they heard about it, because incomprehensibly Prince had it removed due to claims of his copyright being infringed upon?
No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I think this tribute album is amazing just from listening to the samples on MySpace.

I personally think you are wrong and should try and listen before you judge too much. It's actually done in a very creative way with a lot of time and love and attention to detail. I think it works on a lot of levels and it's interesting what they have done with it. Believe me it is a lot MORE than a regular tribute album. Every song is given a new and revealling dimension and it only heightens depth of meaning to Prince's songs, music, and lyrics. Nothing is taken away from it - only added. It truly is an amazing and magical music experience and you can really feel the artists love for Prince. Well, that is my opinion. I'm a creep and you're a weirdo...

NO Actually, that would be a great idea! Personally, I think the Shockadelica box is a very ambitious project that deserves credit for just being what it is. I put all the 81 tracks in my iPod, listened through them once, then deleted about half of them - the ones that were too similar to the original versions, which doesn't interest me at all. But the other 40 tracks or so, I found they had actually tried to interpret the songs in a different and personal way - which is really what a true artist always would do. Stylistically, I might not particularly like certain bands or genres of music, but still it's always nice to hear someone make an honest artistic effort, displaying craftmanship as well as a strong conviction.

It sort of reminds me of Sinead O'Connors version of Nothing Compares 2 U.

It seems that i have offend a couple of people here,i'm sorry, but imo the album still sucks. after listening to the tracks the album comes off as a pop/techno album. that's good but where's the funk, jazz, blues,R&b sounds that Prince incorprates into his music. I mean come on IF ur gonna make Girl&Boys then u have to make it funky. To me they should have tried to switch it up on the album. Hell wouldn't it have been nice if they took a song like let's go crazy and turn it into hot funk number why in God's name do u wanna make me cry

Prince is so hypocritical it's hilarious .. when it's not maddening. I'm going to repeat what I said on another thread: I find it hard to believe Prince has done anything close to this caliber of someone else's work....and if an artist asked him not to and threatened to sue...I just don't see him wanting that kind of publicity or capable of trying to capitalize on such a project. Yes, he has sung other people's songs....What these people have done is something on an entirely different level...It seems a contradiction: they claim to be honoring Prince at the same time not respecting him or his wishes. It is far from hilarious or maddening....What you speak of are two entirely different situations. and what happened to two wrongs don't make a right??? If you are still of the same mindset??? What a cheap shot at someone you claim to like??? sad
