When Doves Cry Appreciation I have new understanding and respect for this song. Tell me, if you will, what the song means to you.
Could it be the way eye play guitar? Master of the soft not 2 loud

I've gone into GREAT detail about this song on here MANY times in the past and why I adore it so much. I've even written a few threads just about the guitar intro alone. Today, I'll just say that it's my all time favorite Prince song next to the cut Controversy. It's one of the best singles ever by any artist. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

One of Prince's absolutely best songs that I've heard so far. I can relate to the parent refrences in the lyrics.....the rest of the song is great as well... and my all time favorite video that I've seen so far. I love the ending... Someday, after mastering winds, waves, tides and gravity, we shall
harness the energy of love; and for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire. --Pierre Teilhard De Chardin

Prince's literal words, aren't always what I gather emotionally.

Ignore this post.
I don't need the encouragement. "Criticism is the laziest form of expression ." - some deep dude.

Like so many others, this is the song that got me into Prince. It used to be my all-time favorite prince song, but that title now belongs to Controversy (opposite order of blackguitaristz's top 2 favorite P songs lol). Also, this is the song that made me want to start playing guitar. It's simply amazing. wah wah wee wah.

When doves cry was the first time I saw Prince so it holds a very special place in my heart, I think it's has a sad, lonely pain filled, meaning like so many of Prince songs but it's just put to a groovy beat. Must I become naked no image at all, should I remain upright or get down and crawl?

It was just so striking, different, something we could all relate to. And I remember being completely captivated by the video - probably the first time I saw Prince too, when I think about it ..... Wake up children, dance the dance electric, there isn't much time... Who screamed? Was it you?

I actually cried when I first heard the song. As I've said, it was released on my 21st birthday.

There are lines that still resonate with me today. "Touch if you will my stomach, feel how it trembles inside." "Don't make me chase you - even doves have pride." "Dig if you will the picture of you and I engaged in a kiss." (Yes, I've used them shamelessly.) Never said that I can recall but have often thought, "How can you just leave me standing alone in a world that's so cold?" I was already a veteran Prince fan and the first time I heard it I told my brother he would be singing it before the summer was over, and that it would be the biggest song of the year. Heard this song today on the radio at work, I was sort of in shock, since I haven't heard it on the radio for a long time and cranked it up loud. And while I was listening to it, it popped into my mind how much I really liked these lyrics, especially the ones you just mentioned. One of my most favorited songs. "Touch if you will my stomach, feel how it trembles inside, you've got the Don't make me chase you even

I have never met anyone who didn't like this song. I know they are out there, but I haven't run into to anyone. This is just straight out a great song. The thing about it, you can't help but sing it. You find yourself singing, you just can't help it!!!

I connect with this song so strongly I find it hard to know where to begin....for me this was the ultimate Prince song and it came about at a time when my violent, alcoholic father had just left my mother....thank God!!!

Like some of the others I was a teen when this came out, and the lyrics referring to parental problems were particularly apt at the time; as well as the overall sense of isolation and loneliness - it was pretty much the sountrack to that period of my life (and yes, it made me a Prince fan).

Something about that song when you hear it and it comes with that guitar intro is unlike anything that ive heard before i mean it doesn't the song doesn't even have bassline unlike most songs and its still hot, the song is pure genius. His tone of voice and vocal range in general is amazing and it shows on that song. The reference to his parents i can relate to as a teen. For it to reach my generation and still be appreciated that song is timeless.

It was the song that made me a fan. It's amazing that after 24 years, there STILL isn't another song like this. Freaking amazing isn't it? Prince yesterday, today and tomorrow. Happy 50th Prince!!!!! Keep the Funk alive!!!
