It's pretty obvious that 09 will be a big P. Rain 25th year celebration but does anyone have some real inside info?

so far he has apparently copyrighted the purplerain web address & keeps wheelin out Morris, Sheila in live gigs etc. With it being 25 years next year i expect him to milk the run up to with various activities. So does anyone have a scoop yet?. By the way I predict that there won't be a new CD this year, instead Turn it Loose will be part of the 02 Book and be part of a compliation of live tracks from the dates and amongst a handful of new tracks!.

We haven't even gotten into the middle of 2008 yet! Slow down and lets see what happens for this remaining year first. With that said, I do hope that something BIG happens next year and that Prince doesn't do his usual squandering of great opportunities with milestones. I won't hold my breath but a man can dream right?

I guess the problem would be that most of us real fans have everything. Why bother to beat a dead horse? The sole reason I would buy the 25 Anni PR CD would be if he included the clear full length versions of Take me with u, Computer Blue and Darling Nikki. I have them all but would prefer a better mix.
The DVD would be intersted with the deleted scenes (such as the fight with Jellybean and the scenes in the trailer that are not in the movie). Which are both not likely so why bother?

I don't think the JW thing has anything to do with the reissue of PR. I think he would do it once he retained his masters again.

hell he can only play 3 songs LOL, he's probably at odds with every other song on the soundtrack.

At a guess, I'd say that the only reason he's copyrighted the Purple Rain name/domain is to put a spanner in the works of WB doing anything relating to it's 25th Anniversary.
Alternatively, it's a bargaining tool where he can say 'You do this my way or I won't let you use the name (and therefore, the project) at all!'. Now, that's a worst case scenario for fans if he really wants that much control over such a project, knowing how he thinks about his current work and past self.

Looking logically, he doesn't celebrate his own birthdays, so why celebrate the birthday of something that he considers to be in his past?

Sadly, I don't think the album/movie is important enough outside of his fan base to warrant a 25th Anniversary release. Sure, I'd love it if it were fully remastered and had an extra disc of remixes/B-sides/out-takes, but I'm not sure how much it could be milked to the public out there. It was hugely popular in its day, but regardless of the music within, the whole movie/album project really was 'of its day'. Or maybe we'd get a Timbaland produced 'Take Me With U (featuring Akon)' and 'When Doves Cry (featuring Fergie)' as extra tracks

And the movie was re-released as a special edition as little ago as 2004. Would it really be worth their while to re-issue it yet again when they know that most definitely, only true fans would buy it once more for only a few extra scenes.

Thriller was given a 25th because Michael is trying to edge his way back into the limelight and by co-operating with Sony he was able to attempt to remind people of why he was famous in the first place whilst offering something heading towards 'new'. Thriller is also the greatest selling album of all-time and its profile is such that no other album is looked upon with the same reverance among the masses (not just music lovers), so Sony knew that they'd be able to make at least something out of it.

Personally though, if PR were to get the 2CD treatment, I wouldn't want them to stop there and I'd feel even more depressed at the 'What could have been' scenario that the Prince Ultimate CD set has left.
