If you're trying to find the performance, put in "Rihanna and the Time at the Grammy's" in the search bar on Youtube.

Rihanna definitely shouldn't have been there. So she's the hot chart star at the moment, she should have had her own set if they were going to give her more stage time than The Time when on together. I'd have preferred a medley of 3 or 4 songs instead of just Jungle Love again.

I liked it when Rihanna shouted Chili Sauce - I bet she had to be told to say it and had no idea why.

(Probably) No Time performance if they do not back Rhianna..

Even with Jam as a Grammy board member..

I guess no one got the fact that "How's the family?" is what Morris says to the Kid in Purple Rain after the Kid's father tried to kill himself. Especially th MTV news writer.

I enjoyed the performance... And y'all should be thankful that The Time were even asked to join Rihanna... SHE is the top bill right now (sad as that is)... I'm sure everyone except Prince fans were like "what the hell"?? I love the band to death but are they really any more relevant than a group like The Jets or Poison or any other skilled 80s band with a hit 2 decades ago?

sorry I disagree. what performance was there to enjoy? The Time has not performed in 18 years and they all met up in LA to perform their songs for a total of 1 minute??? (okay maybe it was longer than that but it felt extremely short).

and just throwing ole school artists with a young hot artist of the moment does not always work. This did not work. Rihanna just did not fit well and she should have performed on her own. If they were determined to stick them with a younger artist they should have chosen someone else that fits more with the Time.

but hey, i guess out of all of this they finally have a new CD and will be touring, wow! To finally see Jesse Johnson live. cool

Rihanna should have kept her ass at home and let the time do their thing. I liked the performance, but I would have loved it if she wasn't on stage. Some old/new combos DO work at the grammy's but this one should have been given the heve-ho early on.

I agree, with you. Rihanna doesn't mix, with the Time. It was funny to see her do their dance moves, though.

What I'm trying to figure out is the Morris Day/Prince thing. It's like in terms of looks, they're two sides of the same coin. They have the suit with the shades and permed hair.

I've always sort of wondered. Did Prince invent Morris? Prince was The Time, musically on two of their albums. Prince, also, had substantial involvement on one of my favorite Time albums "Pandemonium". The demo done by Prince for "Chocolate" was kept and modified a little but...damn! Has anyone ever heard the "Chocolate" demo? Most of the things you hear Morris say were said by Prince, in the demo.

I guess Morris did come up with his attitude and style, but it, still, makes me wonder.

You never know. He's "invented" plenty of his female proteges over the years. There's no reason not to think he'd take the same approach with a guy. I don't imagine he'd take so much time and consideration to craft and sculpt the public image of these women and then just let the guys do whatever.

The Jets? Are you stupid? One of the biggest producer teams in history came out of the Time. They are in the greatest rock n roll film of all time. They havent produced a new album in 17 years and are still touring. Name 3 songs from the Jets - or Poison, for that matter. Do eother of them have a frontman with the charisma of Morris Day? His entire persona is iconic.

Yes! It should have been the other way round... Rihanna opening with The Time taking over... like it was it kinda was anticlimatic! For a second there I thought Prince would enter the stage!

It generally would be a better idea to let the young ones start and the legends will finish the job!

How is the family?

Not a cool question for a guy who lost his mother, father, son, and is divorced twice.

Morris was kinda a jerk.

Do you guys bother to read the posts here?? Scroll up a bit and you;ll see Morris was quoting his line from Purple Rain.

His blood sister is still alive, one of his step sisters died recently.

Anyway, we all know it's a reference to PR! But it's still, at the very least, an insensitive thing to say or 'refer back to' at this time, considering the circumstances of P's life.

I know its a line from purple rain, i´ve seen the movie too many times. I still think it´s a bad joke. It´s as stupid as Morris talking to The kid.

If you'll kindly notice, I was the first one to point that out, given that I started this thread.

There are different ways you can take Morris' quote, though, which is the point.

I believe when Morris asked the question to Prince, it was a genuinely innocent question, given their history together.

Morris is the only one who knows, for sure.

Funny interview.
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."
