"Pope" I heard this song for the first time yesterday. I've fallen in love with it. I usually don't care for Prince rapping, but for some reason, I just like the groove of this tune. Does anyone else like this song?

No, I don't think so. It was just one of like 3 new songs that was on the "Hits" collection. Along with "Peach" and "Pink Cashmere".

was it ever a hit? i dont understand... The Hits /B-sides discs each also included two previously unreleased recordings which also offered some extra interest for people who had already purchased all of the released material, and offered Warners some extra marketing opportunities: Hits 1: Nothing Compares 2 U - previously unreleased version Pink Cashmere Hits II: Peach Pope B Sides: 4 The Tears In Your Eyes - previously unreleased version Power Fantastic ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

It was also part of Prince's one word title onslaught of the early to mid 1990s, right around to late 1992 to early 1994 that gave birth to such songs as Pope, Interactive, Dark, Pheremone, Papa, Endorphinemachine, Come, Space, Race, Interactive, Shy, Peach, Loose!, LetItGo, and Poem (later Orgasm).

I LOVE "Pope".
I love a Man who:
Wears More Make Up Than Me. Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots. Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol. Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol. Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

Pope is a cool track! Nothing really memorable but a fun throwaway Prince rap/hip hop song. I think it is from the year 1993. It might be a leftover song from either the Diamonds and Pearls or the Symbol sessions. I dig it though!

Love this song! The lyrics are funny, and the sound bites are hilarious! My favorite sound bite is, "Ohhhh noooo motherfucker, not today!" Cracks me up! "I guess Soul Psychodelicide means death of the soul from psychodelic drug use" - mimiviz
